Job Title: OT Technician
Overview
The OT (Occupational Therapy) Technician plays a vital role in healthcare environments by providing essential support to occupational therapists in helping patients improve their ability to perform daily activities. Technicians work closely with patients to assist them with therapeutic exercises and techniques tailored to their individual needs. Their responsibilities also include maintaining equipment preparing treatment areas and ensuring a safe and clean environment for patient care. Key Responsibilities
- Assisting occupational therapists in preparing and implementing treatment plans.
- Preparing treatment areas and necessary equipment for patient use.
- Guiding patients in performing therapeutic exercises.
- Monitoring and documenting patient progress during sessions.
- Providing instructions and encouragement to patients to enhance participation.
- Ensuring all equipment is sanitized and in good working order.
- Communicating with patients to gather important information on their progress.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality as per HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborating with healthcare staff to optimize patient care.
- Participating in ongoing training and professional development.
- Managing scheduling and appointment books for therapy sessions.
- Assisting in administrative tasks as required by the occupational therapy department.
- Educating patients and caregivers on home exercises and proper techniques.
- Observing safety and health regulations in patient care environments.
- Offering emotional support to patients throughout their therapy.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in occupational therapy assistance is preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferably in occupational therapy.
- Strong understanding of therapeutic exercises and treatment modalities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Proficient in the use of office software and electronic health records.
- Ability to lift and move patients safely adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid is beneficial.
- Detailoriented with excellent time management skills.
- Flexibility in working hours including potential weekends or evenings.
- Willingness to participate in continuous education and training programs.
- Strong problemsolving skills and ability to adapt to changing environments.
