Job Title: Medical Surgical Nurse
Overview
The Medical Surgical Nurse plays a crucial role in the healthcare team providing highquality nursing care to a diverse patient population undergoing surgical procedures. Medical Surgical Nurses are responsible for monitoring patient progress administering medications and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The primary focus of this position is to assess plan implement and evaluate the nursing care of patients in a fastpaced dynamic environment. This role requires a combination of advanced clinical skills and compassionate patient care making it essential for patient satisfaction and recovery. By fostering a safe and supportive atmosphere Medical Surgical Nurses aid in enhancing the patients experience and contribute significantly to improving overall healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately.
- Manage and administer medications including IV therapy as prescribed.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs.
- Provide education to patients and families on postoperative care and recovery.
- Monitor vital signs and recognize signs of distress or complications.
- Collaborate with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals for optimal patient care.
- Assist in the preparation and recovery of patients undergoing surgery.
- Maintain a sterile environment and follow infection control protocols.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families.
- Document all nursing care and patient interactions in electronic health records.
- Participate in patient rounds and contribute to care discussions.
- Respond promptly to patient emergencies and provide necessary interventions.
- Educate patients regarding lifestyle changes and health maintenance.
- Supervise and mentor junior nursing staff and students.
- Stay informed of new research and best practices in medicalsurgical nursing.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Nursing (Associate s or Bachelor s).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medicalsurgical nursing.
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and postoperative care.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a highstress environment.
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Commitment to continuous education and professional development.
- Experience with patient education and support.
