Assignment Start Date: 12/24/2024
13 weeks Days 8hour shift 40 hours guaranteed per week

Please get in touch with a recruiter for full details.The Certified Surgical Assistant provides aid in exposure hemostasis closure and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to intraoperative duties the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant to the surgeon during the operation does so under the direction and supervision of that surgeon and by hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities/Accountabilities)
- Determine specific equipment needed per procedure
- Review surgical consent confirming procedure and special needs
- Select and display Xrays for the surgeons reference
- Assist in moving and positioning the patient including placement of a pneumatic tourniquet if needed
- Actively participate in Surgical Timeout
- Drape patient within the surgeons guidelines
- Provide retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization about tissue type and appropriate retraction instrument and/or technique
- Assist in maintaining hemostasis by direct pressure use and application of an appropriate surgical instrument for the task placement of ties placement of suture ligatures application of chemical hemostatic agents or other measures as directed by the surgeon
- Use of electrocautery mono and bipolar
- Clamp ligate and cut tissue per surgeons directive
- Maintain competency on all new surgical equipment and devices
- Maintain the integrity of the sterile field
- Close all wound layers (fascia subcutaneous and skin) as per the surgeons directive
- Insert drainage tubes per surgeons directive
- Select and apply wound dressings
- Assist with resuscitation of patients during cardiac arrest or other lifethreatening events in the operating room
- Perform any other duties or procedures incident to surgical procedures deemed necessary as directed by the surgeon
- Maintain knowledge of jobrelated duties working within the hospitals policies and procedures.
- Treat and handle all patient information as confidential.
The responsibilities listed above are not allinclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospitals goals and objectives.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION
Experience:
- Must have at least three to five years of recent experience as a Certified Scrub Technician
- Recent experience as first assist in all specialties preferred
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited surgical assisting program is required
Licenses Certifications and/or Registration:
- An active unrestricted Physical Therapist license from any U.S. State or Territory
- Must have current CPR/BLS certification
EMR: Athena experience preferred
Shift: Monday Friday
