The Supervisor provides technical and operational support to a specific laboratory area while participating in daily sample production. Responsibilities include but are not limited to scheduling and prioritizing work tasks training problem solving implementing new procedures and methods analyzing samples reviewing and validating data and completing reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates work projects with project managers to appropriately prioritize laboratory workload to meet client requirements.
- Manages inhouse projects for an assigned department to ensure ontime delivery and turnaround times requirements are met.
- Release samples to laboratory personnel communicates due dates and updates turnaround times as needed
- Supervises Analysts to maximize productivity and ensure appropriate testing procedures in compliance with quality assurance and standard operating procedure requirements.
- Manages direct reports
- Runs daily operation of the Microbiology department including scheduling as needed
- Manages preventative maintenance on instrumentation
- Communicates department issues and provides status reports to next level of Lab Management and Project Managers
- Assists Project Managers with any questions they might have
- Assist Department Manager to evaluate individual performance in yearly performance review as well as providing feedback on an ongoing basis to lab personnel.
- Responsible to ensure proper training of all new analysts and develop staff on skills equipment and procedures.
- Executes crosstraining program created by manager
- Responsible for data validation and consumable inventory
- Prepares department reports as assigned by laboratory management.
- Tracks department productivity.
- May perform department safety inspections to maintain EH&S requirements.
- Provides input on department staffing levels
- May have input into hiring and firing decisions
- May stock and order supplies as needed.
- May dispose of samples according to EH&S requirements.
- May clean work area(s) to maintain a safe working environment.
- May prepares and analyzes samples for analysis based on method requirements.
- May review data produced in assigned department and authorizes its release.
- May operate and maintain sophisticated analysis instrumentation requiring advanced and specialized knowledge.
- Creates and updates department standard operating procedures
- Assists other laboratory departments as needed.
Qualifications :
Basic Minimum Qualifications:
- BS or BA in Microbiology Biology Chemistry or closely related field
- Minimum of 4 credit hours in Microbiology
- 1 year of bench experience with water and/or milk microbiology.
- At least 30 days of onthejob training in drinking water microbiology under an experienced analyst
- Previous supervisory experience
- Understanding of basic laboratory practices related to Microbiology or related fields including safety and aseptic techniques
- Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship
Ideal Candidates will have:
- 3 years of experience in Microbiology
- Prior experience with with Microbiology testing for drinking water
- Extensive previous supervisory experience 35 years
