Roles and responsibilities
1. Music Instruction and Curriculum Delivery
- Music Theory: Teach students fundamental music theory, including reading music, understanding musical notation, rhythm, scales, harmony, and dynamics.
- Instrumental Instruction: Provide instruction in playing various musical instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, violin, etc.), either through group or individual lessons. Teach both beginner and advanced techniques.
- Vocal Instruction: Offer voice training and help students develop vocal techniques for singing. This includes breathing exercises, vocal warm-ups, pitch accuracy, and performance skills.
- Music Appreciation: Introduce students to different music genres, historical periods, and famous composers. Teach them how to listen to and analyze music from various cultural and historical contexts.
- Classroom Instrumental Ensembles: Organize and lead group performances, such as choirs, bands, or orchestras. Prepare students for public performances or school concerts.
- Cross-Curricular Integration: Collaborate with other teachers to integrate music with subjects such as history, literature, or social studies, to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
2. Performance Preparation
- Concerts and Recitals: Plan and organize school concerts, recitals, and performances. This includes selecting repertoire, arranging rehearsals, and ensuring that students are prepared for the event.
- Musical Productions: Work on musical theater productions, helping students with acting, singing, and dancing. Oversee rehearsals and performance details.
- Solo and Group Performances: Encourage students to perform solos or as part of an ensemble. Prepare students for both informal performances and formal assessments.
3. Assessment and Student Development
- Skill Assessment: Regularly assess students' musical abilities, both practical and theoretical. This includes monitoring progress in singing, instrument playing, and understanding of music theory.
- Feedback and Encouragement: Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their musical abilities. Celebrate their achievements, whether small or large, to build confidence and motivation.
- Individualized Instruction: Adapt teaching methods to accommodate students with different learning styles or special needs. Offer differentiated instruction to meet the varying levels of ability within the classroom.
- Student Portfolios: Track and document students’ progress over time, helping them set personal musical goals and improve upon specific areas of weakness.
4. Classroom Management
- Fostering a Positive Learning Environment: Maintain an engaging and supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages creativity, collaboration, and respect among students.
- Discipline and Structure: Ensure that students follow classroom rules regarding behavior, use of instruments, and respect for their peers. Manage classroom dynamics and keep students engaged during lessons.
- Safety and Instrument Care: Teach students how to properly handle musical instruments, ensuring their safety and preventing damage to the equipment.
Desired candidate profile
- A passion for providing outstanding teaching and driven to provide education at an exceptional level. Teachers enjoy an outstanding school environment in which to deliver a dynamic and creative curriculum to motivated students.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
- Teachers are expected to have a current license/certification in their home country with a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience.
- IB PYP experience is preferred.
- Aspiration to work in a world class school with real prospects for enhancing their career.
