Roles and responsibilities
1. Library Management
- Collection Development: Curate, select, and manage the library's collection of books, journals, e-books, audiobooks, and other educational resources. Ensure that materials are current, relevant, and aligned with the needs of the students and curriculum.
- Cataloging and Organization: Catalog library resources using systems such as Dewey Decimal Classification or Library of Congress Classification. Maintain an organized and user-friendly library environment where materials can be easily located.
- Inventory Control: Keep track of library materials, perform regular inventory checks, and manage the circulation of resources to ensure the library's collection remains accurate and up-to-date.
- Resource Maintenance: Monitor the condition of library resources, perform repairs or replacements when needed, and ensure that resources are properly stored and cared for to maintain their longevity.
2. Information Literacy Instruction
- Research Skills: Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively. This includes using library databases, online resources, and traditional reference materials to conduct research.
- Digital Literacy: Provide instruction on using digital tools and technologies for research, such as academic search engines, online databases, and educational apps.
- Workshops and Classes: Organize and conduct library orientation sessions, research workshops, and information literacy lessons for students, helping them build skills that will support their academic and personal growth.
- Critical Thinking: Encourage students to think critically about information sources, teaching them to analyze and assess the credibility and relevance of sources in both print and online formats.
3. Library Services and Programs
- Reader's Advisory: Assist students and staff in selecting books and resources based on interests, reading levels, and academic needs. Create book lists, reading challenges, and library events to engage readers and promote a culture of reading.
- Storytelling and Read-Aloud Sessions: For younger students, organize regular storytime or read-aloud sessions to foster a love of literature and support early literacy skills.
- Book Clubs and Events: Organize book clubs, author visits, literary events, and other activities that encourage reading and community engagement with literature.
- Homework Support: Provide students with resources and guidance for completing homework assignments, research projects, and reports. Offer assistance with finding books, articles, and other resources relevant to their assignments.
4. Technology Integration
- Educational Technology: Integrate technology into library services and instruction, using digital resources, online databases, and multimedia tools to enhance the learning experience.
- Online Resources: Manage and promote access to online resources such as e-books, audiobooks, and academic databases that support student research and learning.
- Library Management Systems: Use library management software to track and organize the circulation of materials, manage overdue items, and streamline library processes.
Desired candidate profile
- A passion for providing outstanding teaching and driven to provide education at an exceptional level. Teachers enjoy an outstanding school environment in which to deliver a dynamic and creative curriculum to motivated students.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
- Teachers are expected to have a current license/certification in their home country with a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience.
- IB PYP experience is preferred.
- Aspiration to work in a world class school with real prospects for enhancing their career.
