Roles and responsibilities
1. Individual and Group Counseling
- Provide Counseling Services: Offer one-on-one and group counseling sessions to students who are facing personal, emotional, or social challenges. Help students address issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, peer conflicts, bullying, self-esteem, and family issues.
- Confidentiality: Ensure that all counseling sessions are conducted in a confidential manner, with students’ privacy and trust being a priority. Maintain records of counseling sessions in accordance with school policy and legal requirements.
- Support for Mental Health: Recognize signs of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, or trauma, and provide appropriate support. Make referrals to external mental health professionals when necessary.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to student crises, such as incidents of bullying, self-harm, or emotional breakdowns. Provide immediate support and ensure that the necessary follow-up care is provided.
2. Academic Guidance and Career Counseling
- Academic Support: Help students manage academic stress and guide them in developing effective study habits, time management skills, and coping strategies. Assist in addressing learning difficulties or barriers to academic success.
- College and Career Guidance: Provide counseling to older students regarding career options, college preparation, application processes, and scholarship opportunities. Help students explore their strengths, interests, and future goals.
- Academic Planning: Assist students and their families with course selection, academic goal setting, and long-term academic planning. Ensure that students are on track to meet graduation requirements and explore future educational opportunities.
- Test Preparation and Achievement: Provide support and strategies to help students prepare for standardized tests, and offer counseling for students who may feel anxious or stressed about exams.
3. Social-Emotional Development
- Promote Positive Social Skills: Work with students to develop effective communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. Implement programs and activities that teach emotional intelligence, empathy, and healthy relationship-building.
- Bullying Prevention: Lead initiatives to prevent bullying and create a safe, supportive school environment. Counsel students involved in bullying incidents and work on conflict resolution strategies.
- Peer Mediation: Help facilitate peer mediation sessions for students experiencing conflicts with one another. Teach students how to handle disagreements constructively and promote peaceful resolutions.
- Social Skills Programs: Lead or facilitate programs and workshops that focus on building resilience, self-awareness, social engagement, and emotional regulation.
4. Collaboration with Teachers, Staff, and Parents
- Teacher Support: Collaborate with teachers to identify students who may need additional emotional or academic support. Offer suggestions for classroom accommodations, strategies for dealing with difficult behaviors, and ways to support students' emotional well-being in the classroom.
- Parent Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians regarding their child’s emotional, social, and academic progress. Offer guidance to parents on how to support their child’s development, particularly during times of crisis or change.
- School-Wide Initiatives: Work with school leadership and staff to develop school-wide programs that promote emotional well-being, inclusivity, and positive behavior. Contribute to initiatives such as mental health awareness campaigns, anti-bullying programs, and career day activities.
Desired candidate profile
- A passion for providing outstanding teaching and driven to provide education at an exceptional level. Teachers enjoy an outstanding school environment in which to deliver a dynamic and creative curriculum to motivated students.
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
- Teachers are expected to have a current license/certification in their home country with a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience.
- IB PYP experience is preferred.
- Aspiration to work in a world class school with real prospects for enhancing their career.
