Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Leadership and Vision

  • Setting a Clear Vision: Develop and communicate a clear educational vision for the school, in alignment with the values and mission of the institution. Inspire and motivate staff, students, and the community to work toward the achievement of that vision.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop long-term goals and strategies for academic improvement, school development, and student success. Implement plans to meet curriculum standards and educational milestones.
  • School Culture: Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture that values respect, collaboration, and student-centered learning. Promote a climate where students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

2. Academic Oversight

  • Curriculum Implementation: Ensure that the curriculum is delivered effectively and is aligned with state/national educational standards. Oversee curriculum development, instructional practices, and the integration of resources.
  • Academic Monitoring: Monitor student academic performance regularly through assessments, teacher feedback, and student outcomes. Ensure that students’ learning needs are met and intervene when necessary to support underachieving students.
  • Teacher Supervision and Support: Observe classroom instruction, provide feedback to teachers, and offer professional development opportunities. Support teachers in the implementation of effective teaching strategies and help them improve their practices.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use data from assessments, standardized tests, and student progress reports to make informed decisions about curriculum adjustments, teaching strategies, and school improvement initiatives.

3. Student Well-being and Support

  • Pastoral Care: Oversee the emotional, social, and behavioral development of students. Create a supportive environment where students' well-being is prioritized, and provide guidance on addressing issues such as bullying, stress, and mental health.
  • Special Education and Inclusion: Ensure that students with diverse learning needs, including those with special educational needs (SEN), receive appropriate support. Oversee the implementation of inclusive education practices.
  • Student Discipline: Set clear expectations for student behavior and enforce school rules consistently and fairly. Work with teachers and staff to address disciplinary issues, encourage positive behavior, and create a safe learning environment.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with parents and caregivers. Organize regular communication and meetings to discuss student progress, concerns, and achievements. Encourage parent involvement in school activities and decision-making.

4. Staff Management and Development

  • Staff Recruitment and Retention: Oversee the recruitment of qualified teachers and staff members. Work with HR to ensure that the school has a talented and motivated workforce.
  • Professional Development: Promote ongoing professional development for staff by offering training opportunities, workshops, and resources. Ensure that teachers stay up-to-date with educational trends, teaching methods, and school policies.
  • Staff Morale and Motivation: Foster a positive, collaborative work environment. Recognize and celebrate staff achievements, and provide support to staff who may be facing challenges.
  • Performance Appraisal: Conduct regular performance evaluations for staff, offering constructive feedback, setting professional growth goals, and identifying areas for improvement. Provide mentorship and guidance to help staff develop their skills.

  • Assisting with all aspects of accreditation processes

Required Qualifications

  • Degree certification in addition to a certified teaching qualification, such as a valid US Teaching/leadership license or equivalent
  • Master’s in education
  • Previous experience as Head of Elementary
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience
  • 3+ years leadership experience
  • International school experience, within the IB is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in Elementary
