Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons in Arabic that cater to different levels of proficiency and promote language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
  • Classroom Management: Manage classroom behavior and ensure that a positive learning environment is maintained, where all students are encouraged to participate and improve their language skills.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Assess student progress through regular tests, quizzes, assignments, and oral exams. Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students improve.
  • Student Support: Offer additional support for students who are struggling with the language or need extra help to improve their skills. This may include one-on-one sessions, tutoring, or providing extra resources.
  • Cultural Integration: Incorporate aspects of Arab culture, history, and literature into lessons to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the language and its context.
  • Use of Technology: Integrate technology into lessons to support language acquisition, such as using apps, interactive whiteboards, or online resources.
  • Collaboration: Work with other language teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure a cohesive and effective language program. Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities.
  • Parental Communication: Regularly communicate with parents about student progress and provide guidance on how they can support their child’s language development outside of the classroom.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Organize or participate in extracurricular activities related to Arabic, such as language clubs, cultural events, or Arabic-speaking competitions.

Desired candidate profile

  • Fluency in Arabic: Advanced proficiency in both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and colloquial varieties, with a deep understanding of grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and linguistic nuances.
  • Curriculum Design: Ability to design engaging and comprehensive lesson plans that cater to different learning levels and incorporate a variety of learning activities (e.g., writing exercises, listening comprehension, speaking practice, cultural studies).
  • Effective Communication: Strong communication skills in both Arabic and the language of instruction (e.g., English) to ensure clarity in explanations and instructions.
  • Language Teaching Methodology: Knowledge of language teaching methodologies, including immersive, communicative, and task-based learning approaches. Familiarity with language acquisition theories and how to apply them in the classroom.
  • Cultural Awareness: A deep understanding of the culture, history, and literature of Arabic-speaking countries, and the ability to incorporate this knowledge into lessons to enhance students’ appreciation of the language.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Experience in assessing student progress through tests, assignments, oral exams, and informal assessments. Ability to provide constructive feedback and track students’ improvement.
  • Technology Integration: Comfort with using technology to enhance language learning, such as online resources, apps, and language-learning software.
  • Differentiation: Ability to differentiate lessons for students with varying levels of proficiency in Arabic, including beginners, intermediate learners, and advanced students.
  • Classroom Management: Strong classroom management skills, including the ability to create a positive, structured, and supportive environment for language learning.
