This role sits within the cost consultancy team providing expert cost and commercial management services for a wide range of projects.
You will join a team of professionals offering fullcycle cost management across various sectors including property and infrastructure delivering solutions to complex challenges and supporting client outcomes.
The Role: Responsibilities
As a Cost Consultant specialising in MEP your key responsibilities will include:
Safety and Compliance:
- Upholding safetyfirst principles and ensuring compliance with local health and safety regulations.
- Promoting an inclusive and supportive working environment that values wellbeing.
Cost Management and Procurement:
- Developing cost plans presenting them to stakeholders and ensuring cost management aligns with strategic outcomes.
- Supporting procurement processes including prequalification analysis and contract preparation.
- Conducting feasibility studies advising on procurement strategies and applying value management techniques.
Project Delivery:
- Managing cost planning and estimation activities taking ownership of final cost plans.
- Negotiating and agreeing final accounts with contractors.
- Providing cost control and reporting services throughout project delivery.
- Advising on and preparing contract documents including warranties bonds and licences.
- Evaluating contractor claims and issuing certificates of practical completion.
Stakeholder Management:
- Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to clients and delivering exceptional service at all project stages.
Sustainability and Innovation:
- Contributing to carbon reduction initiatives and supporting projects aligned with sustainability goals.
- Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance procedures and services.
Leadership and Development:
- Providing guidance and mentoring to assistant cost consultants and junior team members.
- Leading by example to foster a culture of excellence and innovation.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in quantity surveying cost management or a related field.
- Professional membership or progress towards MRICS/RICS (or equivalent).
- Experience in cost consultancy with MEP expertise and a mix of property and infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with JCT and NEC forms of contract.
- Strong knowledge of cost planning budgeting value engineering and lifecycle costing.
- Commercial and financial acumen with experience advising on contract administration.
- Understanding of sustainability social value and carbon reduction in the context of project delivery.
- Strong communication negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Experience developing relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and improving working practices.
