Job Description

Job Title: Detention Services Worker (Custodian)
Work Location: Contra Costa County CA
Job Type: C2C/Fulltime/W2
Job Details:
The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff is recruiting to fill Detention Services Worker vacancies. This is an excellent opportunity for persons with custodial experience. The Countys Detention facilities are located in Martinez Richmond and Clayton CA.
Under supervision Detention Services Workers carry out the full range of routine janitorial maintenance housekeeping and food service duties in the Countys detention facilities and other related work as required.
This class is the journey level in the Detention Services series. Positions in this class work under the direction of a Lead Detention Services Worker or a Detention Services Supervisor who is responsible for the care and maintenance of a County Detention Facility.

Maintaining cleanliness;
Sanitation of detention facilities;
Overall appearance of assigned areas;
Stocking various areas with necessary supplies;

Lifting and moving heavy items (up to 50lbs.)

Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operators License. Out of State valid Motor Vehicle Operators License will be accepted during the application process.
Experience: Either (1) one year in the class of Detention Services Aide in Contra Costa County OR (1) one year of institutional cleaning and maintenance experience.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience buffing stripping and/or waxing floors
Previous maintanance experience
Selection Process
Application Filing: All applicants must apply online at and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement and supplemental questionnaire by the final filing date.
Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the bestqualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
Written Multiple Choice Assessment: A written multiple choice assessment will be administered to measure candidates competencies as they relate to the job. These may include but are not limited to: Building and maintaining relationships Handling and resolving conflict Professional impact Driving results Selfmanagement Adaptability Attention to detail Decision making Innovating problem solving Safety focus Reading Comprehension and Oral Communication. Applicants must achieve a passing score in order to be ranked on the employment list. (Weighted 100%)
The written assessment will be administered remotely using a computer. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment. You will not be able to take the assessment using a mobile device such as a cell phone.
The Human Resources Department may change the assessment steps notes above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
CONVICTION HISTORY
After you receive a conditional job offer you will be fingerprinted and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County. If you accept a conditional job offer the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Workerrelated training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
