Job Description

Launch Engineering Activities

  1. Provides project management and technical leadership in launch activities ensuring the New Product Review process (NPR) is followed.
  2. Maintains budgets within the guidelines for Tooling Manufacturing Order (TMO).
  3. Establishes and receives approval for the cash flow.
  4. Works within the Customers Quality Management System requirements for product development special characteristics and submission guidelines. (APQP NMR SQAM QS are examples of these specifications).
  5. Performs procurement functions which includes establishing performance specifications on all purchases such as gage R&R production rates quality levels and machine efficiencies.
  6. Supports Manufacturing Engineering in the development of die cast M&A and material flow processes.
  7. Participates in or leads in the creation of testing matrix that assures product and process validation.
  8. Handles post launch activities and engineering changes.

Product Engineering Activities

  1. Leads and manages all customerdriven and internal product changes. Assesses the impact of customer or requested changes on product shape manufacturability process function special characteristics and quality. Assesses the impact of changes on product financials (amortization balance) and capacity (volume/cycle time changes).
  2. Participates in design reviews for new products tools processes and equipment. Reviews designs for manufacturability and performs risk assessments.
  3. Leads all design efforts for product components and tooling for die cast and M&A operations.
  4. Participates in die cast and machining and assembly equipment runoffs.
  5. Assists in quoting the costs and timing associated with changes on products.
  6. Issues purchase orders to suppliers for work associated with product engineering changes.
  7. Authors and keeps timeline associated with implementing product changes.
  8. Provides oversight of tooling process and document changes associated with the requested change and with assistance from Manufacturing and Quality Engineering.

Other

  1. Participates in lean manufacturing initiatives and incorporates lean and continuous improvement concepts in work activities and completion of projects.
  2. Participates in the continuous improvement meetings and assists in efforts to improve quality and profitability of products.
  3. Participates in quality audits of production processes to assure current production meets expectations of defined requirements.
  4. Participates in customer complaint reviews and 8D process for completing corrective actions.
  5. Contributes to and supports the existence of a positive work environment through personal involvement by communicating interacting and behaving in a manner that promotes productive relationships with coworkers supervisors customers and others with whom such relationships are important to the success of company operations.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Does not have supervisory responsibilities or direct reports. Facilitates group meetings to accomplish tasks and troubleshoot problems.

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field
  • 35 years engineering experience (9T)
  • 510 years engineering experience (10T)
  • 10 years of progressive work experience in Engineering in a manufacturing environment and
    2 years experience in project management including meeting facilitation and presentation experience (11T)

Preferred: Experience in lean manufacturing processes; High volume automotive with automated machining assembly and tooling experience.

Computer technical mechanical mathematical and/or scientific skills

  • Proficient skills in MS Word and Excel.
  • Proficient skills in CAD PQ2 GD & T and 5s and visual factory concepts.
  • Solid knowledge in the following:
    • gating runner design PQ2 diagrams atomization gate velocity and tool design.
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques and programs.
    • blue print/part print reading skills.
  • Solid understanding and experience in moldflow modeling simulations and interpretations.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts
