The Requirements
DUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must possess a valid State of Florida Drivers License. Must be certified as required by the State of Florida BCAIB as an Electrical Plans Examiner and as an Electrical Inspector. Engineers are exempt from BCAIB only. Must be certified by Board of Rules and Appeals and meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- To be eligible for appointment as an Electrical Plans Examiner such person shall be certified as required by BCAIB as an Electrical Plans Examiner and as an Electrical Inspector. Engineers are exempt from BCAIB certification.
- Such person shall be certified by BORA and shall meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- An Engineer in the discipline requested and having practiced for a minimum of five (5) years within the State of Florida.
- An Electrical Inspector serving for a minimum of one (1) year for an AHJ or school board within the State of Florida and who complies with at least one (1) of the qualifications listed below:
- An Engineer in the discipline requested.
- Five (5) years construction experience in the electrical discipline in a supervisory capacity and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor.
- Five (5) years construction experience in the electrical discipline and five (5) years experience as an Electrical Inspector certified by BCAIB and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor.
- Seven (7) years construction experience in the electrical discipline and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Journeyman Electrician.
- Ten (10) years experience as an Electrical Inspector certified by BCAIB. A person with multidiscipline certifications can only be certified in one (1) discipline.
Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:
- Each of the applicants shall possess a current Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician Contractor or Electrical Contractor issued by at least one of the following entities.
- Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board
- Broward County Central Examining Board of Electricians.
- Miami Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board Block proctored issued on or after January 1 1968.
- Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as an Engineer.
- Valid Drivers License: With proof of automobile insurance
- Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
- Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of current codes and regulatory standards governing the states building construction industry in the respective trade/discipline.
- Considerable knowledge of all functions relevant to the processing and approval of building construction projects in the respective trade/discipline e.g. plans review licensing permitting and inspections.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lead and support technical level Inspectors with routine and nonroutine inspection activities.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment e.g. computer terminals printers copy machines telephone systems facsimile machines.
- Ability to read update and maintain various records and files.
- Ability to access operate and maintain various software applications.
- Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees departmental staff and management contractors engineers architects and property owners.
- Skill in the review and interpretation of construction project plans and the technical interpretation of applicable construction codes and regulatory standards.
- Skill in written communications for the effective development and presentation of departmental reports and modifications to established codes and ordinances.
- Skill in providing plans review oversight and recommending/developing modifications as necessary to ensure overall project compliance with applicable codes and regulatory standards.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues supervisors managers and the public.
