The Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent or vocational school plus four (4) years experience as an automotive mechanic at the journey level with at least two years experience working on heavy equipment i.e. backhoe dump truck front end loader etc. Must possess a valid State of Florida CDL Class B License within six (6) months of hire.
Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid State of Florida CDL Class B License within six (6) months of hire.
- Valid Drivers License: With proof of automobile insurance
- Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
- Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the standard practices and equipment of the automotive repair trade.
- Knowledge of Hybrid CNG and Electrical vehicle systems.
- Knowledge of the operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair of a wide range of light and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge with heavy trucks and equipment.
- Knowledge of the hazards associated with the trade.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Skill in the use of a variety of shop tools and equipment.
- Skill in troubleshooting and adjusting defects in automotive equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical hydraulic air and electronic systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines and their systems.
- Ability to instruct and direct personnel engaged in simple routine maintenance and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and automotive diagrams.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors subordinates and members of user departments.
- Ability to use computer related vehicle and truck diagnostic programs.
- Ability to adapt available tools and parts to specific repair and adjustment work.
- Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues supervisors managers and the public.
