Job Summary:
A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a credentialed medical professional with academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice includes those procedures acts and processes permitted by law for which the individual has received education and clinical experience and completed ARDMS or ARRT (US) registration which is the standard of practice in Ultrasound.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Prepares for examinations by checking equipment taking inventory of supplies replenishing stock as needed reviewing physician orders and patient schedules readying recording equipment and inputting patient information.
Programming and adjusting the scanner for the specific procedure and ensuring the transducer captures images from every angle or section as needed.
Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical pathological diagnostic information and images.
Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
Assumes responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all patients in the sonographic area/department.
Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients answering their questions and providing support.
Decide which still images or sonograms to capture and present to the physician for diagnostic purposes.
Keeps jobrelated knowledge up to date by taking advantage of educational opportunities networking reading professional publications and participating in professional organizations.
Ensuring patients are comfortable by answering any questions they have about the tests.
Uses the electronic health records system with accuracy and enters patient charges as required.
Performs IV insertion for IV contrast studies
Checking prior authorizations and scheduling patients
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
Associates Degree in Applied Science
RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) certification or equivalency.
BLS certification from American Heart Association
Experience
3 years of Sonographer Experience
RVT(Registered Vascular Technologist) credentials willing to train if needed
Required Skills/Abilities
Adhere to all applicable federal state and local laws and regulations; the standard of care in the community applicable to employees; relevant licensure/certification accreditation and ethical standards; thirdparty payer requirements; and clinics bylaws rules and policies including but not limited to clinics employment policies
Physical sensory and cognitive abilities sufficient to perform essential functions.
Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment
Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
Knowledge of safety and infection control protocols.
