Overview The Physical & Occupational Therapy Department Head oversees the operations of the Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) departments. This role ensures the physical safety and accessibility of environments for individuals supported by the organization through guideline development environmental evaluations and staff training. The Department Head also provides direct supervision of PT and OT staff and collaborates with external clinical professionals to promote safe and effective outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Administrative & Supervisory Duties: - Provide administrative supervision for all PT PTA OT and COTA employees.
- Develop and revise policies and procedures for PT and OT in alignment with regulations and program requirements.
Environmental Evaluations: - Assess physical environments to ensure accessibility and hazardfree conditions for individuals supported.
- Maintain and inspect large adaptive equipment performing minor repairs and facilitating larger repairs as necessary.
Collaboration & Consultation: - Partner with the development team to ensure physical safety needs are met during new project planning.
- Work with nursing staff to facilitate safe hospital discharges and returns to programs.
- Collaborate with therapists to provide staff training on adaptive equipment use and therapy programs.
Screening & Risk Management: - Conduct fall risk screenings proactively and reactively making appropriate referrals as needed.
- Screen new admissions to determine the appropriateness of the location for their needs.
Training & Development: - Collaborate with workforce development to organize and deliver training seminars focused on adaptive equipment and safe handling techniques.
Other Responsibilities: - Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications - Education: NYS Physical Therapy License and a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy (required).
- Experience: At least 5 years of clinical experience in a residential setting supporting individuals with physical disabilities.
