Roles and responsibilities
1. Surveillance Monitoring:
- Monitor CCTV Systems: Continuously monitor live feeds from surveillance cameras in various areas, such as entrances, exits, storage areas, and key departments. Ensure that the cameras are functioning properly and cover all critical areas.
- Detect Suspicious Activities: Identify any unusual or suspicious behavior through camera feeds, such as theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, or safety hazards. Alert the appropriate authorities or security personnel when necessary.
- Respond to Incidents: In the event of a security breach or emergency, quickly assess the situation via the camera feeds and communicate effectively with on-site security personnel or law enforcement to address the issue.
2. Documentation and Reporting:
- Log Events: Keep detailed records of surveillance activities, including any incidents or security breaches observed, actions taken, and any important events that occur during the monitoring shift. This may include documenting times, dates, and descriptions of suspicious activities.
- Incident Reporting: Prepare clear and accurate reports for incidents observed through the cameras, which may be used for investigation purposes. These reports can also be submitted to management, law enforcement, or insurance companies if required.
- Camera Logs and System Checks: Document routine maintenance checks on camera systems, report any technical issues, and ensure that surveillance systems are functioning optimally. Inform management if repairs or replacements are necessary.
3. Technical Operation:
- Operate Surveillance Equipment: Ensure the proper operation of cameras, including adjusting camera angles and zooming in on specific areas for closer inspection. Use the monitoring software to switch between camera feeds and enhance visibility of critical areas.
- Maintenance of Equipment: Ensure that all cameras and recording devices are in working order. Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance, such as adjusting camera positions, cleaning camera lenses, or restarting equipment as needed.
- Manage Video Storage: Safeguard recorded footage by following proper procedures for archiving and storing video data. Ensure that video footage is kept for the required period and securely stored in compliance with company policy or legal requirements.
4. Security Awareness and Risk Assessment:
- Identify Vulnerabilities: Use surveillance to identify potential security vulnerabilities in the premises, such as poorly lit areas, blind spots in camera coverage, or high-risk locations.
- Preventive Measures: Assist in preventing theft, accidents, or other security issues by being proactive in identifying potential threats. Work with security teams to improve surveillance strategies and ensure all areas are adequately covered.
