Roles and responsibilities
1. Receiving and Unloading Shipments:
- Unload Goods: Receive incoming deliveries from suppliers or transport vehicles. Unload merchandise safely and efficiently, using equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual labor.
- Inspect Shipments: Check products for damages or discrepancies in quantity and quality against the purchase orders or delivery receipts. Report any issues to the supervisor or inventory control team.
- Document Shipments: Ensure all incoming goods are properly logged and recorded in the warehouse management system (WMS). This includes tracking product codes, quantities, and condition of items.
2. Inventory Management:
- Organize Inventory: Store products in designated areas of the warehouse according to product type, size, or shelf life. Ensure that items are organized and easily accessible.
- Stock Rotation: Implement stock rotation methods (e.g., FIFO – First In, First Out) to minimize product expiration and maintain the freshness or quality of perishable goods.
- Inventory Counts: Assist in regular physical counts of inventory, reconcile stock discrepancies, and help identify missing or misplaced items. Report stock levels and help maintain inventory accuracy.
- Labeling: Label products or packages clearly with identification codes, barcodes, or tags for easy tracking and retrieval.
3. Order Picking and Packing:
- Pick Orders: Retrieve items from shelves based on customer orders or production schedules. This may include manually picking items or using equipment like pallet jacks or forklifts.
- Pack Orders: Carefully pack items for shipping, ensuring they are secure and properly protected. This may include wrapping products in bubble wrap, boxing fragile items, or assembling kits of items.
- Labeling and Documentation: Ensure that orders are correctly labeled for shipment, including shipping addresses, order numbers, and tracking information. Prepare any required shipping documentation.
- Accuracy: Double-check orders to ensure that the correct items and quantities are selected and packed to avoid shipping errors or customer complaints.
4. Shipping and Delivery Preparation:
- Prepare Shipments: Prepare products for outbound shipments by placing them on pallets, wrapping them securely, and loading them onto delivery trucks or containers.
- Coordinate with Drivers: Work with the shipping team to ensure that products are delivered on time, and that all logistics are coordinated, including routing, scheduling, and load balancing.
- Documentation: Ensure that all outgoing shipments are accompanied by the correct paperwork, such as shipping labels, delivery receipts, and customs documentation (if applicable).

- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in picking, packing, labeling, and recording inventory to avoid errors in shipments or stock levels.

- Problem-Solving: Ability to address issues as they arise, such as inventory discrepancies, packaging errors, or shipment delays.
- Safety Awareness: Understanding of warehouse safety protocols and proper use of equipment to prevent accidents.
- Machine Operation Skills: Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling tools, typically with necessary certifications.
- Basic IT Skills: Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory tracking software may be beneficial.
