The Officer Dispatch reporting to a qualified Flight Dispatcher is responsible for assisting in the execution of flights according to regulatory and company standards. This role involves coordinating with crew members ensuring compliance with legal and operational requirements and maintaining flight safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Crew Coordination:
- Assign crew to flights ensuring they meet competency and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with flight and duty limitations for crew members.
Flight Preparation:
- Verify the aircrafts maintenance status and ensure its fit for the planned flight.
- Plan or review flight plans focusing on fuel requirements and availability.
- Gather and evaluate weather reports and NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen).
- Brief the Pilot in Command (PIC) on all relevant safety and operational information.
Operational Control:
- Issue flight documentation to the PIC ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Maintain continuous monitoring of weather affecting operations.
- Report any abnormal operations unusual conditions or irregularities to the Dispatch Supervisor.
Flight Monitoring:
- Maintain flight watch over all flights ensuring compliance with dispatch protocols.
- Monitor turnaround times and ensure crew readiness for departures.
- Update relevant systems with accurate flight timings and other operational data.
Crew Management:
- Monitor and manage crew schedules including handling crew changes and attendance.
- Coordinate with crew schedulers in case of schedule disruptions or crew sickness.
Aerodrome and Runway Management:
- Coordinate maintenance of aerodrome facilities and ensure no flights are dispatched to unserviceable locations.
- Obtain necessary clearances for runway usage.
Data Management:
- Enter and maintain accurate flight release data in the relevant system.
- Ensure proper filing and documentation of flight releases and other important documents.
Emergency and Special Situations:
- Familiarize and adhere to the Emergency Response Manual.
- Liaise with other departments to expedite flight departures and handle any emergencies or technical issues.
Working Conditions:
- The Officer Dispatch works in a highstress environment responsible for both inair flights and the safety of valuable equipment. They must make quick decisions based on detailed information and maintain calm during emergencies.
- The role involves shift work including morning and afternoon shifts with occasional overtime.
