We are looking for a Sous Chef.
Responsibilities:
Developing menus estimating food and labor costs and placing orders for food supplies
Overseeing the quality of dishes throughout all stages of preparation and presentation
Collaborating with Managers Dietitians and kitchen and waiting staff to address food preparation issues
Demonstrating cooking techniques and providing guidance on procedures
Preparing and cooking meals
Explaining and enforcing hygiene standards
Potentially selecting and training staff
May involve freezing and preserving food items
Skills Required:
Successful applicant must have:
Education and Training: A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent is typically required. Advanced diplomas in hospitality or culinary arts can be advantageous.
Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen environment ideally in a similar role. Experience in various cuisines can be an advantage.
Skills: Strong culinary skills including knowledge of cooking techniques food safety practices and presentation standards.
Hygiene Knowledge: Understanding of food hygiene regulations and ability to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Knowledge of Food Safety Standards: Understanding of food safety standards and HACCP protocols.
Creativity: Ability to develop and create new recipes and menu items.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to effectively work with kitchen staff and frontofhouse teams.
Teamwork: Ability to work well as part of a team in a fastpaced environment.
Time Management: Excellent time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing menus dietary requirements and kitchen demands.
First Aid Certificate: Some employers may require a First Aid certification.
