Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Production and Operations Management:

  • Supervise Daily Operations: Oversee the daily activities of the production floor, ensuring that manufacturing processes run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Monitor Production Targets: Ensure that production targets are met in terms of quantity, quality, and deadlines.
  • Manage Workflow: Coordinate workflows and ensure all stages of the production process (e.g., raw material handling, assembly, packaging, etc.) are executed as planned.
  • Troubleshoot Production Issues: Address and resolve operational bottlenecks, machinery breakdowns, and quality issues to minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Ensure Product Quality: Maintain and enforce strict adherence to quality control standards and processes to ensure products meet required specifications.

2. Team Leadership and Management:

  • Team Supervision: Lead and manage a team of workers (e.g., machine operators, line workers, packers) to ensure efficiency and productivity.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to new team members and on-the-job coaching to existing employees to improve skills and operational knowledge.
  • Schedule Shifts: Organize work shifts and manage staff resources to ensure production runs smoothly and that labor requirements are met.
  • Employee Motivation: Foster a positive work environment by motivating the team, setting clear goals, and resolving any conflicts or grievances that arise.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track individual and team performance through KPIs, identifying areas for improvement and providing feedback to employees.

3. Inventory and Materials Management:

  • Monitor Stock Levels: Ensure that raw materials, packaging materials, and other inventory needed for production are available and properly managed.
  • Inventory Optimization: Work closely with the procurement and supply chain teams to ensure inventory is optimized, reducing waste and preventing shortages that could delay production.
  • Warehouse Coordination: Coordinate with the warehouse team to ensure timely storage and retrieval of materials required for production.

4. Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Enforce Quality Standards: Implement and ensure adherence to quality assurance and control standards, ensuring that products meet both internal specifications and external regulations.
  • Conduct Inspections: Regularly inspect products, equipment, and processes to identify and resolve any potential quality issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local and international safety, environmental, and food/consumer product regulations as applicable.

5. Health and Safety Management:

  • Maintain Safety Standards: Enforce a safe working environment by monitoring health and safety standards, ensuring that employees follow safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Report and Address Hazards: Identify potential safety hazards, address them proactively, and ensure that the team follows proper safety procedures.
  • Accident Investigation: Investigate and document workplace accidents or injuries and take corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Desired candidate profile

  • Prior experience in production, warehouse management, logistics, or quality control within an FMCG setting is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and improving operational processes for high-volume, time-sensitive production.
  • Proven track record of supervising teams, ensuring productivity targets are met, and maintaining high-quality standards.

3. Key Skills and Competencies:

a. Operational and Technical Skills:

  • Production Management: Ability to manage and optimize manufacturing processes to meet output targets while maintaining quality.
  • Inventory and Supply Chain Management: Strong understanding of stock control, procurement, demand forecasting, and logistics.
  • Quality Control: Expertise in ensuring compliance with product quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to interpret production data and KPIs to make data-driven decisions, optimize workflows, and reduce costs.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Knowledge of workplace safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

b. Leadership and Team Management:

  • Team Leadership: Strong ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, ensuring high morale and productivity.
  • Conflict Resolution: Skilled in managing disputes and resolving issues within the team or between departments in a diplomatic and effective manner.
  • Training and Development: Capable of training new employees and fostering the growth of existing team members through coaching and mentorship.

c. Communication Skills:

  • Clear Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with upper management, team members, and other departments (production, supply chain, quality assurance).
  • Reporting: Proficient in preparing reports on production metrics, operational issues, and achievements, and presenting them to senior management.

d. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:

  • Proactive Problem Solving: Ability to quickly identify problems in the production process and implement corrective actions.
  • Decision-Making under Pressure: Ability to make quick, effective decisions in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

e. Adaptability and Time Management:

  • Adaptability: Ability to respond to changing priorities, unexpected challenges, and new technologies.
  • Time Management: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
