Job Description

Overview
The Project Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating field construction activities managing direct hires subcontractors and vendors from project start to completion ensuring the successful delivery of the project in alignment with company and project goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to all safety policies procedures and practices. Address unsafe activities immediately to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Conduct regular safety inspections and toolbox talks ensuring corrective measures are implemented as needed.

  • Project Planning and Coordination: Oversee all construction activities including determining the method of construction work sequencing materials equipment workforce scheduling and managing labor costs. Create and maintain work schedules to meet project deadlines.

  • Management of Construction Operations: Supervise daily field operations including trade contractors and subcontractors ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality expectations. Monitor progress resolve issues and address any discrepancies.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Prepare and submit daily job reports. Coordinate communication with all project stakeholderssubcontractors vendors and other team membersensuring work is completed according to plans specifications and schedule. Build and maintain positive relationships for current and future collaboration.

  • Collaboration with Project Management: Work closely with the project management team providing input on cost management scheduling and lookahead planning. Identify potential roadblocks and proactively address them to keep the project on track.

  • Material and Resource Management: Ensure timely procurement and delivery of all materials equipment and inspections. Coordinate with project management to adjust schedules or resources as necessary to minimize disruptions.

  • ProblemSolving and Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with key personnel to resolve field construction challenges utilizing training and performance development techniques to improve efficiency and outcomes.

  • Subcontractor Coordination: Schedule and lead meetings with subcontractors to review scope of work schedules and expectations. Ensure that each subcontractor understands their responsibilities and the specific requirements of the project phase.

  • Project Closeout: Ensure project closeout activities are completed on time including punch list management final inspections and documentation.

  • Meetings and Updates: Attend and prepare for status meetings providing timely and accurate updates on project progress challenges and solutions.

Supervision and Team Leadership:

  • Workforce Management: Directly manage field staff providing guidance setting performance expectations and ensuring tasks are completed effectively. Conduct regular performance reviews coaching and counseling to address any issues.

  • Team Culture and Development: Foster a positive open and inclusive team culture promoting collaboration and trust. Ensure compliance with company values and performance expectations.

  • Employee Training and Onboarding: Manage the onboarding process for new hires ensuring they are oriented to workplace policies procedures and job expectations. Support ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the construction industry with handson experience managing subcontractors suppliers and direct labor. A degree in construction management or related field is preferred.

    • Experience overseeing construction projects valued up to $30M from start to finish.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Procore and OpenSpace applications is a plus.
    • Strong understanding of construction processes including scheduling reading blueprints specifications contract management and resource allocation.
  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong leadership communication and problemsolving skills.
    • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
    • Ability to navigate challenges adapt to changing conditions and make informed decisions under pressure.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Physical Demands:

    • Ability to move across various terrain climb heights and work in confined spaces.
    • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds.
    • Sufficient depth perception and vision to interpret instructions drawings and conduct safety checks.
  • Work Environment:

    • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including heat cold precipitation and wind.
    • Ability to work in noisy environments and confined spaces with occasional poor ventilation.
