Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Supervision and Leadership of Cashiers

  • Team Management: Oversee the daily activities of cashiers, ensuring that all transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. Manage cashier schedules, ensuring adequate staffing during peak hours.
  • Training and Development: Train new cashiers on company policies, cash handling procedures, and POS systems. Provide ongoing training to ensure cashiers stay updated on best practices and changes in procedures.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor cashier performance, offering feedback and corrective action when necessary. Address any performance issues promptly, and conduct regular evaluations.
  • Motivation and Support: Foster a positive work environment, motivating cashiers to provide excellent customer service while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.

2. Cash Handling and Accuracy

  • Transaction Accuracy: Ensure that cashiers handle all financial transactions correctly, including processing sales, refunds, exchanges, and voids, while maintaining accurate cash balances.
  • Cash Reconciliation: Regularly review cashier till balances to verify that all transactions have been properly recorded. Ensure that cashiers perform end-of-shift reconciliations, balancing their cash drawers and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Cash Deposits: Oversee the secure transfer of cash to a safe or bank deposit. Ensure all procedures for handling and depositing cash are followed to prevent errors or theft.
  • Error Resolution: Address discrepancies or errors in cash handling, investigate the causes of discrepancies, and take appropriate action to resolve issues. This may include reviewing transaction logs and video surveillance if necessary.

3. Customer Service

  • Customer Interaction: Act as a point of escalation for customer complaints or issues related to transactions. Ensure that cashiers provide exceptional customer service, handling questions, concerns, and payment issues with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Problem Resolution: Address difficult customer situations promptly and fairly, ensuring customer satisfaction while adhering to company policies.
  • Maintain a Positive Environment: Encourage cashiers to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for customers, ensuring a pleasant shopping experience.

Desired candidate profile

  • Leadership and Management:

    • Ability to manage, motivate, and lead a team of cashiers. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff and customers.
    • Conflict resolution skills for handling staff performance issues and customer complaints.
  • Attention to Detail:

    • High level of accuracy in cash handling, ensuring that all transactions are processed correctly.
    • Ability to spot errors in cash drawer reconciliation and take corrective actions.
  • Customer Service:

    • Excellent customer service skills to address and resolve customer concerns and ensure a positive experience.
    • Strong communication skills to explain policies or resolve disputes.
  • Financial Management:

    • Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including reconciliation, reporting, and secure cash management.
    • Ability to analyze financial reports and identify discrepancies or issues in cash transactions.
  • Problem-Solving:

    • Ability to address discrepancies or issues with cashiers’ performance or cash handling practices.
    • Quick thinking in addressing customer complaints or operational issues that arise during the workday.
  • Organizational Skills:

    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, such as managing cashier schedules, cash drawer audits, and other administrative responsibilities.
    • Time management skills to ensure smooth operations during busy periods.
  • Tech-Savvy:

    • Proficiency with POS systems, cash registers, and other technology used in the cashiering process.
    • Ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues with POS or payment systems.
  • Loss Prevention:

    • Understanding of loss prevention strategies to minimize theft and ensure security during cash transactions.
    • Ability to identify suspicious behavior and implement preventive measures.
