Advanced Practitioner Provider
Neuro/Critical Care

Job Summary:

The Neuro Intensivist Advanced Practitioner Provider (APP) is a certified licensed nurse practitioner orphysician assistant who independently and collaboratively works with the multidisciplinary team toprovide comprehensive care to acutely ill and/or medically complex patients in the neurointensive careunit. Our multidisciplinary team includes dedicated EEG services inpatient neurology consultantsdedicated fellowship trained neurointensivist physicians who work closely with neurosurgery andneurointerventional teams.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of etiologies risk factors pathophysiology and presentation of acuteneurological medical emergencies e.g. acute stroke subarachnoid hemorrhage statusepilepticus intracranial hemorrhage.
  • Demonstrates and uses critical thinking skills to synthesize and analyze patient data.
  • Performs a comprehensive or problemfocused history and physical assessment for critically illadult patients that is accurate and complete.
  • Orders collects and correctly interprets and evaluates laboratory imaging and other diagnostictests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes and manages pharmacologic agents and/or other treatment modalities with attention toefficacy and safety.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in procedural skills e.g. intubation central line placement arterial lineplacement lumbar puncture intraventricular medication administration extraventricular drainmanipulation.
  • Strong working knowledge of neurocritical care medicine e.g. fluid resuscitation vasopressorshemodynamic monitoring and mechanical ventilation.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive outcomesbased treatment plans using the patientassessment evidencebased medicine standards of care professional practice guidelines and incollaboration with the interdisciplinary team when appropriate.
  • Evaluates patient responsiveness to treatment therapies and adjusts the treatment plan asindicated.
  • Initiates timely consultation and referral including with the collaborating physician based on theneeds of the patient.
  • Facilitates and maintains ongoing communication with the patient family and/or health careteam members.
  • Counsels and educates patients and families regarding medical processes and treatment.
  • Maintains accurate complete and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Job Details:

  • Night shift
  • Some weekend nights required
  • some on call shifts required
  • Full time
  • Procedure proctoring available if needed


Job Requirements:

  • Must be a board certified and licensed AdultGerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner AcuteCare Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant/Associate.
  • Must have National Provider Identifier (NPI) or obtain NPI prior to employment start date andmeet current Medicare requirements for billing.
  • Must hold current DEA Registration with schedules 2 2N 3 3N 4 and 5 and State issuedprescribing authority.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Emergency
    Neurological Life Support (ENLS).
  • Preferred experience of working at least one (1) year in the neurocritical care setting as a NP orPA or neuro ICU experience as a RN.
