Job Description
What you will be doing: Precision Machinist
Set up and operate OD/ID gear grinding machines to correct runout perpendicularity parallelism and concentricity on shafts splines and gears (spur helical and double helical).
Follow specific instructions to operate OD/ID grinding machines and associated wheel dress and balancing equipment.
Use a variety of hand tools gauges and dial indicators to install involute cams yokes arbors and workpieces.
Use optical equipment to present wheel dresser tools; balance and dress wheels as required indicate workpieces between bench centers prior to loading grinder and make necessary adjustments and/or calculations to meet quality standards.
Check and monitor machine operations check finished parts prior to unloading and obtain required dimensional verification.
Visually check parts for finish and indications of surface burn or tempering.
Maintain records of all finished dimensions and obtain inspection acceptance of finished parts.
Perform other related work of comparable or lower skill level as related to gear machining and check the work of other operators as required.
Complete operator checklist as required and comply with all EH&S procedures.
Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
May be assigned to carry out tasks not specifically listed within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department objectives and skill development.
Experience you will need: Precision Machinist
Ability to make calculations involving shop mathematics and handbook formulas including algebra and trigonometry.
Use of precision instruments such as dial indicators micrometers height gauges snap gauges ring gauges and gear measuring wires.
Equivalent to 2 years of high school plus 2 to 3 years of trades training.
Experience of 1 to 2 years.
