Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

To analyse, communicate, and implement companywide climate change strategies within QatarEnergy facilities by coordinating with internal stakeholders to identify climate change mitigation and energy efficiency projects, and identify potential opportunities and management of carbon credits. Develop climate change mitigation and energy Standards and procedures, in line with QatarEnergy sustainability strategies, assure facilities compliance, and provide technical advice addressing companywide energy efficiency and climate change issues and corporate targets. Perform technical reviews of industrial processes, prepare engineering calculations and analysis, and manage Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) and energy inventories for QatarEnergy Facilities and ultimate reporting to QatarEnergy Sustainability team.
Developing Environmental Strategies:

Design and implement sustainability strategies aligned with the organization's business goals.
Set environmental objectives such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing recycling rates, or promoting energy efficiency.
Create long-term environmental plans to integrate sustainable practices into core business operations.
Compliance with Environmental Regulations:

Ensure that the organization complies with local, national, and international environmental regulations, including air and water quality, waste disposal, and chemical safety.
Stay updated on changing environmental laws and industry standards and adjust policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Submit environmental reports to regulatory bodies, ensuring that all required documentation is up-to-date and accurate.
Waste Management and Resource Conservation:

Develop and oversee programs to minimize waste production and improve recycling and reuse efforts.
Implement water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction initiatives.
Lead efforts to reduce the consumption of raw materials, such as reducing energy use, optimizing supply chains, and increasing the lifespan of products.
Sustainability Reporting and Communication:

Produce regular sustainability reports that highlight the organization's environmental performance and progress toward sustainability goals.
Communicate environmental goals and achievements to stakeholders, employees, and the public to improve transparency and accountability.
Promote the organization’s sustainability initiatives, educating employees and customers about the environmental impact of the company’s operations.
Green Initiatives and Innovations:

Lead efforts to introduce new green technologies, renewable energy sources (e.g., solar, wind, geothermal), and energy-efficient solutions to reduce the environmental impact.
Promote sustainable design practices in products and facilities to reduce resource use and minimize waste.
Encourage the development of sustainable supply chains by collaborating with suppliers to source eco-friendly materials and products.


Desired candidate profile

BSc. in Environmental Science/Engineering discipline or related subject, e.g. Chemical Engineering, preferably with Post Graduate degree/diploma in similar fields or equivalent experience.

Experience & Skills
- A minimum 12 years of professional (direct/consulting/regulatory) experience in the oil and gas (O&G) industry, with experience Climate Change, GHG mitigation, energy efficiency, compliance assessment, auditing and reporting schemes (legal, corporate and management systems compliance). - In-depth Knowledge of Climate Change Agreements and Laws, and carbon credit markets (Registrations, validation, and credit issuance processes) - Good analytical skills and thorough knowledge of implementation of environmental regulations requirements within the O&G industry. - Work experience in the preparation of standards, procedures, specifications and reports. - Skills in air quality modeling is highly desirable. - Work experience in preparation and implementation and follow up of emission reduction plans and programs. - Ability to apply knowledge and expertise using original and innovative professional approaches and techniques to strengthen internal controls. - Excellent written and communication skills in English language. Knowledge of Arabic would be an advantage. - Able to influence and motivate operational teams. Strong computer skills including all MS Office packages. - Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and flexibility in work assignments.
