Team Management and Leadership:
Proven ability to lead, supervise, and motivate fire station personnel, including firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and support staff.
Ensure that teams work efficiently and cohesively, coordinating shifts and responsibilities effectively.
Ability to lead by example in emergency situations, maintaining composure and making quick decisions under pressure.
Training & Development:
Responsible for the training and development of team members, ensuring they are proficient in firefighting techniques, emergency response protocols, and safety standards.
Organize and supervise drills, training sessions, and professional development programs to maintain operational readiness.
Ensure that all station personnel are updated with the latest firefighting technologies, emergency medical procedures, and legal/regulatory compliance requirements.
Operational Management:
Incident Command & Response:
Act as the incident commander during emergencies or significant incidents, providing clear direction to ensure effective coordination of resources and personnel.
Responsible for assessing the scale and risk of emergencies, developing strategies, and coordinating the response efforts on-site.
Oversee the deployment of personnel and equipment in firefighting, rescue, and medical emergencies, ensuring proper tactics and strategies are used.
Equipment & Resource Management:
Ensure that all firefighting and rescue equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and ready for immediate use, including fire trucks, hoses, rescue tools, breathing apparatus, and communication systems.
Manage inventory control, ensuring that station resources (including uniforms, tools, and supplies) are well-stocked and in good condition.
Responsible for ensuring maintenance schedules are adhered to for all fire trucks and emergency vehicles, coordinating with mechanical technicians for repairs and servicing.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and national safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant firefighting and emergency response guidelines.
Implement and enforce safety protocols within the station and on emergency scenes to minimize risks to personnel and the public.
Ensure all team members use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to safety procedures during incidents.
Strategic Planning & Administration:
Incident Reports & Documentation:
Oversee the preparation of detailed incident reports, including the nature of the emergency, actions taken, outcomes, and recommendations for improvements.
Ensure accurate record-keeping of daily station activities, inventory usage, and training records.
Use incident data to analyze patterns and recommend improvements in response strategies and station operations.
Resource Allocation & Scheduling:
Manage shift schedules, ensuring that the station is appropriately staffed at all times, balancing rest periods, and ensuring compliance with labor regulations.
Oversee the allocation of resources and personnel during multiple simultaneous emergencies or incidents, optimizing efficiency and response times.
Budget & Financial Oversight:
Manage the budget for the fire station, ensuring that all operational costs, including equipment, training, and maintenance, are within allocated financial limits.
Work with higher management or governmental bodies to secure funding for new equipment, facility upgrades, or additional personnel as needed.
Community Engagement:
Represent the station in community outreach activities, such as fire prevention campaigns, public safety education, and school visits.
Maintain positive relationships with other emergency services and community organizations, fostering collaboration during joint operations or public safety events.
Participate in public relations efforts, addressing community concerns and promoting fire safety awareness.
Degree or Diploma in Fire Protection or other related firefighting / fire management field from a recognized university, Graduate of Institute of Fire Engineers or equivalent qualifications will be considered if supplemented by appropriate professional experience.
