Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Guest Service

  • Greet and welcome guests as they arrive, providing them with menus and informing them about daily specials or promotions.
  • Engage with guests to understand their needs and preferences, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction throughout their dining experience.

2. Order Taking

  • Take food and beverage orders accurately, ensuring that all details are captured correctly.
  • Provide recommendations based on menu items, ingredients, and dietary restrictions.

3. Food and Beverage Service

  • Serve food and beverages to guests in a timely and courteous manner, following proper serving techniques.
  • Ensure that orders are delivered accurately and in a presentable manner.

4. Table Management

  • Set up tables before guests arrive, ensuring that all necessary utensils, glassware, and condiments are available.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area, including clearing and resetting tables after guests depart.

5. Communication with Kitchen Staff

  • Relay orders to kitchen staff efficiently and accurately, ensuring that special requests or modifications are communicated.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of orders.

6. Guest Interaction

  • Check in with guests throughout their meal to ensure satisfaction and address any issues or additional requests.
  • Handle guest complaints or concerns professionally, seeking resolution to enhance the dining experience.

7. Payment Processing

  • Present bills to guests at the end of their meal, process payments, and handle cash or credit transactions.
  • Provide change and ensure that receipts are accurately provided to guests.

8. Knowledge of Menu and Specials

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and potential allergens.
  • Stay informed about daily specials, wine pairings, and other offerings to provide informed recommendations.

Desired candidate profile

1. Educational Background

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in hospitality or food service management is a plus.

2. Experience

  • Previous experience in a similar role in the food and beverage industry is preferred, though entry-level candidates may be considered.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and cash handling.

3. Customer Service Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with guests and colleagues.
  • A friendly, outgoing personality with a focus on providing a positive dining experience.

4. Knowledge of Food and Beverage

  • Basic understanding of food and beverage menu items, including preparation methods and potential allergens.
  • Ability to make recommendations based on guest preferences and dietary restrictions.

5. Attention to Detail

  • High attention to detail to ensure accurate order taking and serving, as well as maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Ability to follow instructions and execute tasks with precision.

6. Physical Stamina

  • Capability to stand for long periods, carry heavy trays, and perform physically demanding tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for serving and handling food.

7. Team Player

  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other staff members, including kitchen staff and management, to ensure seamless service.
  • Ability to assist colleagues during busy periods and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
