This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and a care manager. In the caregiver role the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. In the role of care manager the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers (nurses and nonnurses) via delegation coordination supervision and validation/evaluation of patient care outcomes.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The individual in this position reports to the Charge Nurse Department Director and other designated supervisory staff on duty. This position works closely with patients physicians and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.
The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Performs assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic psychosocial and cognitive status.
- Implements care in a knowledgeable skillful consistent and continuous manner by utilization of/adherence to predetermined procedures policies and care plans.
- Identifies patient/significant other learning needs and readiness for learning and implements patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans.
- Documents in patients chart via electronic medical records and/or paper processes per policy and by all regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient/significant other and family rights as identified by Samaritan Healthcare regardless of race age religion color creed sex national origin or any other classification protected by law; and regardless of ability to pay.
- Demonstrates appropriate delegation of patient care activities. Functions effectively to supervise assigned coworkers.
- Demonstrates effective organization and priority setting utilizing sound critical thinking.
- Demonstrates appropriate use of lines of authority.
- May be required to function as a Charge Nurse to include: Delegation of patient assignment/reassignment; assisting/informing with admits discharges and transfers; coordinating staff coverage for breaks; helping staff problemsolve; serving as a lead for unit.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
- Functions with awareness of/adherence to safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to: security and safety understanding of MSDS equipment infection control fire disaster safe lifting and body mechanics.
- Ensures selfcompliance with organization policies and procedures as well as labor agreements.
- Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted courteously and efficiently conducive to the organizations values.
- Professionally conducts self and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION
Experience:
- Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred.
- A minimum of one year of RN experience is preferred for specialty nursing departments.
Education:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Licenses Certifications and/or Registration:
- Must have current WA license.
- AAP NRP Advanced (American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program) is required for all RNs before the end of orientation and is renewed every 2 years.
- STABLE course completion within 6 months of completing orientation and renewed every 2 years.
- OB ALS online course taken within 6 months of completing L&D training and renewed every 2 years.
- AWHONNs Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course for all L&D RNs is required and must be obtained within 3 months of completing L&D training and renewed every 2 years. An advanced Fetal Monitoring course is also acceptable.
- RNC in specialty preferred.
EMR System: Meditech experience preferred
Shift: Nightswith 36 hours a week and the ability to pick up extra shifts. Must be a team player and willing to float to other depts. RTO must be approved and added to the end of the contract.

- Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing planning implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients
- Frequent standing walking lifting reaching kneeling bending stooping pushing and pulling.
- Manual dexterity light physical effort ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment). Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines.
- Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor) lift and push/pull 60 to 300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8 to 12 hours and perform constant walking twisting turning and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of equipment.
- Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decisionmaking skills in the management of acutely ill patients.
- Good reading eyesight. Is able to see clearly 20 feet or more to judge distance and space relationships and to see peripherally. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools.
- Emotional stability: Conducive to dealing with a highstress level for 8 to 12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients/families fastpaced physical activity rapidly changing patient conditions emotional demands of patients and their families and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers managers physicians and other health care workers.
- Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians nurses health care professionals patients and/or family and the public.
