Job Description

Permanent position at the Department of Cancer Treatment at Levanger Hospital

Levanger is a medium-sized local hospital with emergency functions, serving a population of 100,000. It is large enough to offer varied and interesting tasks, yet small enough to facilitate easy collaboration across different specialties. The Department of Cancer Treatment is part of the Surgical Clinic and includes an oncology outpatient clinic and a palliative care team. Research is an integral part of the department’s activities. Oncology is an exciting and rapidly developing field, with a continually growing patient population.

The department has four experienced oncologists, two resident doctors, a palliative care physician and a highly competent nursing staff. The department operates exclusively on an outpatient basis with no on-call duties and works closely with surgical wards where cancer patients are admitted. Patients are referred to St. Olavs Hospital for radiotherapy. There is strong professional collaboration and shared training with the Cancer Clinic at St. Olavs Hospital.

In 2023, the department conducted nearly 6,100 consultations and over 2,200 treatments. The hospital’s gynecologists, pulmonologists and hematologists are responsible for patients with their respective cancer diagnoses. The palliative care team operates its own outpatient clinic, provides consultations in the wards, and makes home visits.

We are looking for someone who wants to work and live in the charming town of Levanger in beautiful Innherred, where nature is right outside your door, and the cost of living is reasonable. This area is ideal for families, with facilities ranging from kindergarten to university, a cultural school, sports hall/swimming pool, gallery and cultural activities. You can read more about the area here.

Expected tasks:

  • Medical oncological treatment and follow-up with cancer patients.
  • Chemotherapy treatment.
  • General palliative treatment for most tumor types.

  • Communication skills in one of the Scandinavian languages. Free language course will be offered to foreign candidates.
  • A clean criminal record must be documented through a police certificate in accordance with the Health Personnel Act.

Personal qualities:

  • You interact with people in crisis in a respectful, empathetic and professional manner, as well as next of kin.
  • You convey complex information in an understandable way.
  • Professional interest and commitment to oncology with the ability and willingness to stay updated in the field.
  • Internal motivation to excel and contribute to the department’s development alongside skilled colleagues.

We offer:

  • A supportive working environment with dedicated colleagues and excellent cooperation across all professional groups.
  • Competitive salary and working conditions.
