General Description
The person filling this position will collect data and information to assess the capacity of the Rhode Island health care sector to serve newcomer populations.
Goals
- Create an assessment tool to collect data and information from health care providers about their capacity to provide treatment to newcomer populations. Newcomer populations is defined as those people who are newly arrived in Rhode Island with one of the many immigration statuses (e.g. Refugee Temporary Protected Status Humanitarian Parolees Asylees AsylumSeekers) and those without status.
- Work with the team at the Rhode Island Department of Health who are updating an inventory of health care in the state to gain data and information from the RIDOH inventory project relevant to this Health Systems Capacity Project.
- Distribute the assessment tool to health care providers in Rhode Island and collect the data and information returned. Duties 1. Using research of comparable approaches consultation with RIDOH and interviews with providers known to be expert in treating newcomers develop a tool to assess the capacity of health care providers to treat newcomers. 2. Research and choose a digital database platform that can be used in collecting data and information from health care providers and in analyzing that data. 3. Use the tool to assess as many health care providers as possible through July 2025.
- Meet regularly and as needed with DHS staff to report progress and to plan action steps.
- From the data and information gained draft a document identifying strengths and gaps in the health care landscape in Rhode Island.
Qualifications
Graduate level studies in a community health care field
Knowledge of healthcare needs of culturally diverse populations
Knowledge of the needs of migrating populations
Research experience.
Experience using research databases.
Ability to work with Excel Word
Excellent organizational skills
Work Hours and Environment
- Working remotely but able to meet in person with Department of Human Services staff and people and organizations necessary to achieve the goals of the position.
Up to thirty (30) hours a week
Must work within the typical work hours for RI 8:00 AM4:30 PM
Remote but will need to be able to meet in person at least 2x monthly.
