Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Beverage Preparation:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee and tea beverages, including espresso, cappuccino, latte, and iced drinks, following standard recipes and techniques.
  • Operate coffee machines and equipment, ensuring they are clean and functioning correctly.

2. Customer Service:

  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, taking orders, and answering questions about the menu and beverages.
  • Engage with customers to create a welcoming atmosphere and build rapport.

3. Product Knowledge:

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of coffee blends, brewing methods, and beverage ingredients to educate customers and make recommendations.
  • Stay updated on menu changes and seasonal offerings.

4. Sales and Upselling:

  • Promote and upsell menu items, including pastries, snacks, and merchandise, to enhance the customer experience and increase sales.
  • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, handling cash and electronic payments.

5. Inventory Management:

  • Assist in managing inventory levels by monitoring stock and informing management of low supplies.
  • Participate in regular inventory counts and help with ordering supplies as needed.

6. Cleanliness and Hygiene:

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the bar area, equipment, and customer seating areas.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including food safety standards and sanitation procedures.

7. Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth operations and efficient service during peak hours.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to improve skills and product knowledge.

8. Customer Feedback:

  • Listen to and address customer feedback and complaints promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Strive to create a positive experience that encourages repeat business.

9. Creative Contribution:

  • Contribute to the development of new beverage recipes or seasonal specials, bringing creativity to the menu.
  • Participate in coffee tastings and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

10. Equipment Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance on coffee machines and equipment, including cleaning and troubleshooting minor issues.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or repairs needed to management.

Desired candidate profile

1. Education:

  • High School Diploma: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Certifications: Barista training or coffee certification programs (e.g., Specialty Coffee Association) are advantageous.

2. Professional Experience:

  • Experience: Previous experience in a coffee shop, café, or food service environment is preferred but not always required.
  • Customer Service: Experience in customer service roles is highly beneficial.

3. Core Competencies:

  • Coffee Knowledge: Understanding of different coffee beans, brewing techniques, and equipment.
  • Menu Familiarity: Ability to learn and understand the menu, including specialty drinks and food items.

4. Technical Skills:

  • Equipment Proficiency: Ability to operate and maintain coffee machines and equipment (espresso machines, grinders, blenders).
  • Barista Techniques: Skilled in coffee preparation techniques, including espresso pulling, milk frothing, and latte art.

5. Communication Skills:

  • Verbal Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Active Listening: Ability to listen to customer preferences and provide personalized recommendations.
