Job Description

Talent Source is looking for dedicated Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in fabricating installing and repairing sheet metal parts specifically for marine applications. This role requires a strong understanding of shipyard procedures as well as the ability to work with various metals tools and machinery to meet the demanding standards of the shipbuilding and repair industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate install and repair sheet metal components on vessels including ventilation systems bulkheads cabinets and custom parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints technical diagrams and ship schematics to meet precise specifications.
  • Measure cut bend and shape metal sheets to required dimensions using shears brakes saws and other specialized tools.
  • Weld rivet or bolt metal components to form complete assemblies ensuring strength and durability.
  • Inspect work to ensure that all components meet industry standards and project specifications.
  • Perform repairs and modifications on existing ship structures as required.
  • Collaborate with other trades and team members to achieve project goals and timelines.
  • Follow safety protocols including wearing protective equipment and adhering to OSHA and shipyard safety regulations.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 3 years as a Sheet Metal Mechanic preferably in a shipyard or marine environment.
  • Technical Skills: Skilled in sheet metal fabrication assembly and installation; experience with shipspecific metalwork tools and techniques.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds work in confined spaces and operate at various heights and inclinations.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy quality and consistency to meet the high standards of marine construction.
  • Safety: Knowledge of OSHA and shipyard safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in welding or metal fabrication is a plus.
  • Previous shipyard experience or familiarity with maritime structures and systems.
