Title: Occupational Health Nurse
Location: Austin TX
Duration: 6 months (Might get extended depending on performance)
Shift Timings: 2:30 PM 11:00 PM
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Case Management: Oversee care for occupational injuries and illnesses including health assessments treatment plans and coordination with medical providers. Collaborate with management on accommodations and rehabilitation needs for recovering employees.
- Record Keeping: Maintain both paper and electronic medical records for current and former employees and file medical records accurately.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as an expert on leave of absence and workers compensation programs under HR guidance.
- Disability Claims Evaluation: Review weekly disability claims to ensure proper recovery time and facilitate returntowork processes coordinating closely with payroll.
- Workplace Assessments: Conduct walkthrough assessments at the Austin and Round Rock facilities to understand plant processes and recommend job accommodations.
- Hazard Identification: Identify workplace hazards and assist in developing risk reduction strategies with the nurse supervisor.
- Fitness for Duty Assessments: Evaluate employees physical capabilities to ensure appropriate job placements based on established standards.
- Policy Development: Assist in creating sitespecific policies and monitor compliance with company and federal guidelines.
- Infection Control: Maintain infection control protocols and ensure compliance with biohazard waste disposal regulations.
- OSHA Standards: Apply OSHA standards to health surveillance programs conducting regular audits and managing related programs.
- Wellness Program Management: Administer and evaluate the companys wellness program focused on health promotion and risk reduction.
- Educational Initiatives: Develop and deliver training materials on occupational health issues and conduct new hire orientation sessions.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in treating injuries and illnesses.
- Strong understanding of medical recordkeeping.
- Capability to work under pressure and manage interruptions.
- Proficient in providing customer service with a focus on both business and employee needs.
- Diplomatic communication skills for collaboration across departments.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for all employee levels.
- Knowledge of FMLA Texas Workers Compensation HIPAA and privacy laws.
- Proficiency in case management and operation of Occupational Health lab equipment.
- Strong computer skills.
Minimum Qualifications Education & Experience
- At least 18 years of age.
- Bachelors Degree and certification in Occupational Health Nursing preferred.
- Licensed registered nurse in Texas with experience in Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Flexibility to work overtime or oncall as needed.
- Fastpaced clinic/office setting with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to manufacturing and cleanroom environments.
- High concentration required for effective management of office traffic.
- Dexterity needed for first aid and lab work with potential exposure to infectious agents.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
