EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS MANDATORY
Possess a Bachelors Degree or paralegal certification/credential.
WORK EXPERIENCE MANDATORY
Have two years of experience in support services and experience in analytical administrative and litigation support services including advanced skill in processing records for release under the FOIA.
- Be familiar with processing records for release in discovery pursuant to litigation.
- Possess satisfactory ability to communicate orally and in writing to effectively assist interpret track and document legal casework. All personnel must be experienced and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (to include Outlook MS Word and Excel) Adobe Acrobat Pro and FOIAXpress.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
FOIA Analyst or Paralegal
Potential duties include but not limited to the following:
- Provide support and expertise for FOIA litigation (including creating Vaughn indices liaising with DOJ and meeting courtimposed document production schedules).
- Collect data in response to FOIA requests and protect Personally Identifiable Information by redacting information using Adobe Pro software and maintaining information in FOIAXpress ediscover tools and EDR document management.
- Provide ad hoc and standard organizational support to include the gathering and compilation of information for the DOE and other governmentwide calls for information.
- Analyze data collected and create formal responses to requesters Senior Management Congress and to the DOJ (e.g. FOIA Annual and Chief FOIA Officer Report).
- Provide DOE leadership with sound quantitative and qualitative bases for making decisions regarding policy operational and strategic choices.
- Track case progression against deadlines to ensure reduction of backlog.
- Maintain regular contact with DOE FOIA/PA contacts; work with the GC to ensure appropriate exemption application and to craft legally sound responses.
- Coordinate with the Office of Hearings and Appeals to resolve appeals and legal challenges concerning FOIA requests.
- Maintain records that contain Personally Identifiable Information confidential administratively sensitive and controversial information; and develop maintain and streamline filing and tracking systems and procedures.
- Conduct both formal and informal general correspondence.
- Maintain and update FOIAXpress electronic files with current status updates and all file documentation.
