Job Summary
The Senior Accountant Cost will oversee the accounting reporting reconciliation and overall financial control of inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS). This role serves as the subject matter expert in inventory and COGS collaborating closely with operations and supply chain functions. The position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate valuation of inventory and proper recording of inventory transactions while maintaining effective inventory controls.
- Manage accounting for finished goods raw materials/components packaging and freight (import/inbound/outbound).
- Track and report inventory cost variances and calculate record and report adjustments for inventory variance capitalization.
- Develop standard costs and oversee the revaluation of inventory.
- Conduct indepth analysis of direct manufacturing and overhead costs leading process improvements and system changes for datadriven decisionmaking.
- Reconcile various inventoryrelated balance sheet accounts and implement a cycle count process including recording and reconciling results.
- Manage the development of inventory reserves for slowmoving and obsolete products.
- Execute monthly close activities related to inventory transactions and prepare/review journal entries related to inventory COGS and R&D.
- Prepare financial statement disclosures related to inventory and COGS.
- Provide cost analysis and prepare profitability reports for products.
- Collaborate with the FP&A team to ensure accurate budgeting based on the best available information.
- Coordinate with operations teams on annual physical inventory to facilitate successful external audits.
- Perform adhoc inventory reporting and analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
- 8 years of direct accounting experience in a manufacturing/distribution setting; biotech or related industry experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with monthend close and general ledger processes required.
- Strong experience in establishing and maintaining a standard costing system inventory cost absorption and inventory revaluation procedures required.
- Indepth knowledge of US GAAP required.
- Proficiency in Great Plains or a similar ERP system required.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency in MS Office.
- Proven track record of delivering quality results under tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical organizational and problemsolving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
