Position Summary:
The Chemotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for providing advanced nursing care to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments. This role involves administering chemotherapy monitoring patient responses managing side effects and providing expert advice to both patients and their families. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will also work closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure that care plans are followed and that patients receive the highest standard of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Chemotherapy Administration: Safely administer chemotherapy treatments in accordance with established protocols and patientspecific care plans.
- Patient Monitoring: Closely monitor patients for adverse reactions or side effects during and after chemotherapy and take appropriate action as needed.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with oncologists pharmacists and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for each patient.
- Patient Education: Provide education to patients and their families regarding chemotherapy treatment potential side effects and posttreatment care.
- Symptom Management: Assist in managing side effects of chemotherapy including nausea fatigue and other symptoms by providing appropriate interventions and support.
- Expert Consultation: Serve as a resource for other healthcare professionals offering expert advice on chemotherapy protocols and patient management.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all chemotherapy treatments patient responses and any complications ensuring compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
- Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and their families helping them cope with the physical and emotional challenges of chemotherapy.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in quality improvement initiatives ensuring that chemotherapy services meet the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.
- Ongoing Education: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in chemotherapy and oncology care and implement best practices in patient care.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with an active license in State.
- Certified Oncology Nurse (OCN) or Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Certification preferred.
- 5 years of nursing experience with a focus on oncology and chemotherapy administration.
- Indepth knowledge of chemotherapy protocols oncology care and symptom management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to educate and support patients and families.
- Ability to work independently and manage complex patient care situations.
- Compassionate and patientcentered approach to care.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare software.
