Position Summary:
To coordinate a Comprehensive School Counseling Program for all students leading to academic success career awareness social/personal development community involvement and multicultural/global citizenship development.
Essential Functions:
- Designs and implements a datadriven comprehensive school counseling program to meet the academic career and social/personal needs of students at the school as outlined in the School Counseling Plan.
- Communicate goals and services of the counseling programs to school administration staff students and parents.
- Review evaluate and select a variety of resources to support a wellbalanced counseling program.
- Establish implement coordinate and monitor effective schoolwide counseling services and activities.
- Establish and follow procedures for appropriate counseling/mental health intervention in accordance with school district and state guidelines. Maintain student records in accordance with school district and state guidelines.
- Participate in schoolwide events committees and activities to assure student safety during the work day.
- Effective use of technology resources.
- Administer screening assessments for program placement when applicable.
- Interpret scores and communicate results for district state and national assessments.
- Explain nature and purpose of assessment in an understandable manner provide feedback and make recommendations to appropriate individuals.
- Evaluate counseling program using data to include feedback from students parents and staff.
- Provide short term counseling including individual and/or group to meet academic career and/or social/personal needs.
- Recognize the special needs of individuals and families and make appropriate recommendations.
- Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take stipulated intervention referral or reporting action.Provide crisis intervention services including followup services as appropriate.
- Provide intervention for atrisk students and those with special learning and behavioral needs.
- Support programs for career awareness and (at secondary level) comprehensive educational/career plans which target high school completion and postsecondary opportunities.
- Collaborate with students parents teachers and other school staff to assist in meeting needs of all students.
- Serve as an advocate for all students.
- Establish a working relationship with outside services and make appropriate referrals for psychological social work health and community services.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings concerning individual or groups of students that are deemed to be of concern/at risk.
- Provide students parents and teachers with appropriate and necessary support consultative services and training.
- Service as a resource for school staff on counselingrelated activities and techniques and information regarding community agencies. Model professional and ethical standards consistent with The Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of Education Professionals in Florida when dealing with students peers parents and the community.
- Prepare and maintain all required reports and records.
- Initiate and engage in continuing professional growth through inservice classes and/or independent study to keep abreast of recent developments in school counseling.
- Use interpersonal skills to encourage cooperative efforts between staff students families and the community.
- Monitor each student state assessment and course requirements for promotion and/or graduation.
- Interpret student records cognitive aptitude and achievement tests in relation to student planning and placement.
Skills And Abilities - Ability to read interpret and follow State Board rules Code of Ethics School Board policies and appropriate state and federal statutes.
- Knowledge and understanding of child development and the unique needs and characteristics of students served.
- Knowledge and understanding of school counseling principles programs and services.
- Knowledge of community resources and services available for student assistance.
- Ability to counsel and assist students parents and school personnel in the resolution of problems in student learning behavior and mental health.
- Ability to analyze and use data.
- Ability to verbally communicate and consult with parents school personnel and the community.
- Required to push pull or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Positions Qualifications: - Masters Degree from an accredited institution in School Counseling Guidance and Counseling or other graduate level counseling degree.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology as required for the position.
- Certification in School Counseling (Grades PK 12).
- Business conducts drug testing Level II background check and reference checks.

Salary Range: $49500.00 to $63056.00 per year
