Job Description
home textile designer creates and executes original designs for soft home furnishings. Their responsibilities include:
Design
Conceptualizing designs creating sketches and using computeraided design (CAD) software
Samples
Creating samples working with tailors and craftspeople and assembling fabric swatches
Production
Overseeing production ensuring quality standards are met and coordinating with other departments
Trends
Keeping up with fashion trends consumer preferences and new design and production techniques
Communication
Liaising with clients technical marketing and buying staff and representing the company at trade shows
Research
Researching the properties of new textiles and fabrics and sourcing fabrics and materials at trade fairs markets and antique shops
Organization
Being organized and proactive and ensuring projects are completed on time
Textile designers often have a bachelors degree in fashion design textile design or a related field. They should also be proficient with design software programs and have an understanding of textile production processes
meeting with clients virtually or during sales visits. demonstrating and presenting products. establishing new business. maintaining accurate records. attending trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings. reviewing sales performance. negotiating contracts and packages.
