The Challenge:
Our client a global leader in performance materials is seeking a Senior R&D Scientist Applications to join their team.
This position is focused on developing new product applications for our Industrial and Specialty Products Division. Utilizing a deep background in R&D the Senior Scientist will work with products such as diatomaceous earth perlite clay and industrial sand to develop marketdriven solutions. The role involves leading research projects scaling up production generating intellectual property and guiding projects through innovation pipeline. The role requires 20% travel to visit customers plants and attend conferences.
Roles & Responsibilities
Lead marketdriven research to develop new mineralbased products taking them from lab research to fullscale manufacturing.
Serve as the technical lead to qualify new products with select customers.
Provide technical support to the Operations Sales and Technical Service teams.
Prepare presentations on research findings for the executive commercial and engineering teams.
Draft invention disclosures and assist in the patent filing process.
Provide weekly reports on the progress of current projects.
Mentor junior colleagues and direct the work of lab technicians.
Represent client at major technical forums and conferences.
Essential Skills & Requirements
Experience in developing and qualifying new product applications.
Proven track record of product development and commercialization particularly in building materials plastics or CASE (coatings adhesives sealants elastomers).
Indepth understanding of how the physical and chemical properties of inorganic materials affect their final applications.
Minimum of a masters degree (Doctorate preferred) in Engineering or a related field with at least 9 years of relevant industry experience particularly in mining and industrial minerals.
Strong problemsolving skills demonstrated creativity and the ability to manage product and process development directly with customers.
Experience leading product development from concept to commercialization.
Crossfunctional team collaboration experience working with scientists operations sales and marketing teams.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Selfmotivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Experience with (quartz/cristobalite diatomaceous earth perlite) is a plus.
Experience conducting trials in laboratory pilot plant or production environments is desirable.
Travel:
Travel is required once a month.
Education:
Masters Degree or higher in Engineering or a related field.
Doctorate preferred.
