Job Description

Zelle HR Solutions is seeking an innovative and visionary Head of Engineering to lead a dynamic team into the future of metal building systems. As the Head of Engineering you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering operations driving continuous improvement in our design processes and ensuring we deliver exceptional value to our customers. This role requires a strategic leader with the ability to push boundaries inspire a team of designers and draftsmen and implement cuttingedge solutions that align with the evolving needs of the industry. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills a forwardthinking mindset and a passion for advancing the capabilities of our engineering department to meet the demands of our customers and the market.



Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Craft a comprehensive engineering strategy aligned with the companys overall business goals and market demands.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes products and services by questioning existing methods and encouraging innovative thinking.
  • Foster a culture of creativity and experimentation to develop cuttingedge solutions that differentiate this company in the marketplace.


    CustomerCentric Approach
  • Collaborate with sales estimating marketing and customer service teams to gain deep insights into customer requirements and preferences.
  • Incorporate customer feedback into engineering processes to ensure solutions meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Develop strong customer relations seeking a partnership with them to gain their insight on erectability and product development needs. Balance this need while making sure design and detailing remain practical and efficient.
  • Work with manufacturing to streamline the Supply Chain by taking complexity out of the fabrication process while using the best choices for raw materials.
  • Focus on delivering products and services that provide significant value to customers thereby strengthening customer relationships and loyalty.

    Operational Excellence
  • Streamline engineering workflows to enhance efficiency reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards best practices and methodologies to ensure consistency and excellence across all projects.
  • Oversee quality control measures to maintain high standards in product development detailing and manufacturing.

    Mentorship and Leadership Development
  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership behaviors ethical standards and a commitment.
  • Recruit develop and retain top engineering talent fostering a collaborative and highperformance work environment.
  • Invest in training and development programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the engineering team encouraging continuous learning and growth.
  • Cultivate strong team engagement and development.
  • Promote growth opportunities and success for all team members.
  • Ensure that engineering teams have access to the necessary tools technologies and resources to perform their duties effectively.
  • Share knowledge best practices and industry insights to empower managers in achieving their goals.
  • Develop and implement leadership development programs tailored to enhance the skills and capabilities of direct reports
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback to nurture leadership potential within the team.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing among managers.
  • Facilitate crossfunctional collaboration and networking opportunities to promote innovation and best practice adoption.
  • Collaborate with HR and senior leadership to identify and develop highpotential talent for succession planning within the Engineering organization.
  • Ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities and knowledge transfer to future leaders.

    CrossFunctional Collaboration
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g. Manufacturing Sales Marketing R&D) to ensure cohesive and integrated operations.
  • Promote open communication and collaboration between engineering and other teams to align objectives and drive collective success.
  • Oversee projects that require input and cooperation from multiple departments ensuring they are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Practice safe working habits and follow safety procedures policy and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Ability to work towards continuous improvement of product quality and ISO 9001:2015 system.

    Performance Management
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for the engineering department to measure progress efficiency and success.
  • Regularly assess team performance against established KPIs providing feedback and adjusting as necessary.
  • Hold team members accountable for their contributions fostering a culture of responsibility and ownership.

    Technology and Industry Trends
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies industry trends megatrends and best practices to ensure the company remains competitive and innovative.
  • Assess the potential impact of new and emerging technologies on the business and integrate them into the engineering processes where beneficial.
  • Compare the companys engineering practices and performance against industry standards and competitors to identify areas for improvement.

    Budgeting and Resource Management
  • Oversee the engineering departments budget ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support strategic initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising quality or performance.
  • Plan and manage resources to meet project deadlines and objectives efficiently.

    Risk Management and Compliance
  • Proactively identify potential risks related to engineering projects including technical operational and compliance risks.
  • Implement strategies to mitigate identified risks ensuring safety as a priority and project continuity.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are in compliance with relevant industry standards regulations and company policies.

    Requirements
  • 10 years of progressive experience in steel manufacturing or related industry.
  • Advanced degree in Business Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering licensure preferred but not required.
  • Proven track record in team building and leadership.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and drive improvements based on insights.
  • Strong analytical skills to make informed decisions and strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency in planning tools and computer systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • If remote must have the ability and be willing to travel at minimum one week per month to visit the various offices with Engineering personnel attend company events and/or industry meetings/events.
