Director Health Information Management (HIM) Privacy Officer MED#400

Requirements for Director Health Information Management (HIM) Privacy Officer

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a Health Information Management Department.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prefer an applicant with formal training and knowledge of the Privacy Rule and HIPAA Privacy program.
  • Technical Skills: Exposure to an Electronic Medical Record (EMR);
  • License/Certification: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Must be US Citizen or Authorized to Work in the United States

SKILLS:

Skills and Abilities Required for Director Health Information Management (HIM) Privacy Officer

Health Information Management Expertise:

Comprehensive HIM Knowledge: Deep understanding of health information management practices including medical coding data analysis and documentation standards.

Information Governance: Knowledge of data management practices ensuring integrity accuracy and security of health records.

Health IT Proficiency: Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems health information exchanges (HIE) and other relevant health information technologies.

Compliance Oversight & Regulatory Updates

Ability to ensure that all health information management practices comply with federal state and local regulations. Ability to stay current with evolving health information and privacy regulations and industry best practices.

  • HIPAA Knowledge: Thorough understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) including Privacy Security and Breach Notification Rules.
  • Privacy Program Management: Ability to design implement and manage privacy programs to safeguard patient information and address privacy risks.
  • Auditing and Monitoring: Expertise in conducting privacy audits and monitoring compliance with privacy regulations and internal policies.
  • Incident Response: Experience in managing data breaches or privacy violations including conducting investigations and implementing corrective actions.

Analytical and ProblemSolving Skills

  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze health data to identify trends risks or areas for improvement in both HIM and privacy practices.
  • Risk Assessment: Experience in assessing potential risks to patient information and developing strategies to mitigate these risks.

    Regulatory and Legal Knowledge:

    • Regulatory Compliance: Deep understanding of laws and regulations related to HIM such as HIPAA HITECH and statespecific privacy laws.
    • Accreditation Standards: Knowledge of accreditation standards such as those from The Joint Commission (TJC) and how they impact health information management.
    • Documentation and Legal Health Records: Expertise in legal requirements for health record documentation and retention including subpoena responses and litigation support.

    Technical and IT Skills

    • EHR Systems Management: Experience managing EHR systems ensuring they meet clinical and regulatory standards for data security and accessibility.
    • Data Security: Knowledge of IT security protocols including encryption access controls and data integrity measures to protect health information.
    • Information Systems Integration: Ability to work with IT teams to integrate HIM systems with other healthcare technologies like patient portals billing systems and analytics tools.
