Position: Scientific Copy Editor / Contract Technical Copy Editor
Location: Carlsbad CA 92008 (100% Remote)
Duration: 12 Months (Potential Temp to hire)
Job Type: Contract
Work Type: Remote Anywhere in West Coast
Shift: Monday to Friday 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM
Position Summary:
- This position will handle copy editing and proofreading as assigned for a significant volume of technically oriented marketing pieces including application notes white papers protocols brochures handbooks blogs technical notes video scripts tradeshow materials scientific posters and sales/training presentations.
- This position ensures these items adhere to strict scientific accuracy as well as our brand style and trademark guidelines while always employing accurate grammar punctuation spelling etc.
- It requires an individual with a meticulous approach who can edit quickly and effectively who isnt afraid to address challenging scientific subjects and who can be adaptable enough to vary editing styles for differing client needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Requires a masters degree in the life sciences. PhD strongly preferred.
- 2 3 years of scientific copy editing experience
- Copy editing certification (BELS) preferred
- Strong scientific copy editing background/experience
- Knowledge of and familiarity with CSE Scientific Style and Format and Chicago Manual of Style guidelines
- Ability to quickly learn and integrate house style exceptions into above guidelines
- Flexibility in editing style from providing basic grammatical repairs to deepdive editorial passes
- Preference for and an ability to thrive in a fastpaced and dynamic environment
- Attention to detail and high regard for quality
- Strong collaboration and customer service skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Adobe InCopy and Microsoft Office Suite
