Job Mission
In the Smart Energy product area we build smart integrations and optimisations to all kinds of energyusing devices like cars wall boxes thermostats batteries and solar inverters. All with the aim to be the smart choice for each device individually as well as holistically in a home with multiple devices working together. This then enables the grid to be more flexible. In addition to that we also produce our hardware like the realtime Pulse meter and the home battery Homevolt.
In this role you will help us build and maintain parts of our backend serving the apps and our customers with topnotch energy optimisations. The role entails close cooperation with other Backend Engineers App Engineers Designers and Data Scientists within our various product areas. Some of your responsibilities (but not limited to) include:
- Bringing new ideas to the table and pushing for experimentation
- Championing your vision of what the Home Energy Management service should be
- Debugging and triaging systemwide complications
- Knowledge sharing and collaboration across engineering
- Building and maintaining ML models together with our Data Scientists
- Keeping up with technical developments in the field
You are not expected to juggle all the above at the same time but you should ideally be a versatile Engineer who thrives in a scaleup environment.
Ability to build contribute to and maintain relevant services and tools. You would be a key contributor a Backend Engineer cooperating closely with our Trading team and our App Backend Developers.
Engineering contribution. As part of the Engineering culture here at Tibber we always strive to further develop how we work with everything from tooling to architecture and collaboration. Youre expected to take an active part in that work and those discussions.
Ideally you have
Tech expertise. You thrive designing building and maintaining software in technologies such as Python Typescript and C#. You are comfortable in an AWS environment and with owning what you built. You have previously worked with either customerfacing IoT built data pipelines or spent a lot of time with ML models.
Microservices experience. Knowledgeable with a microservices architecture in high throughout cloud environments.
App appreciation. Experience working with a customerfacing mobile app. We dont expect you to contribute in Kotlin or Swift but an understanding of how mobile apps work will certainly help.
Adaptability. You should enjoy and understand that some things cant be done proactively. Sometimes you will need to be reactive as we like to iterate on customer feedback and quite often ship features early to see how they are received.
Industry expertise. Understanding the energy industry is a bonus.
