Position Purpose
The Design Manager in construction is responsible for overseeing the design phase of construction projects ensuring that architectural and engineering designs meet client requirements project specifications and industry standards. The role involves managing design teams coordinating with stakeholders and integrating design solutions with construction plans
.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Bachelor s or master s degree in architecture Civil Engineering Construction Management or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in design management within the construction industry including experience in leading design teams and managing complex projects.
Skills:
Strong understanding of architectural and engineering design principles and construction methods.
Excellent project management skills with proficiency in design software and tools (e.g. AutoCAD Revit BIM).
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Strong problemsolving skills and attention to detail.
Certifications: Professional certifications (e.g. LEED AP PMP) are a plus.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Design Oversight:
Lead and manage the design process from concept through to final construction documents.
Ensure design solutions are feasible costeffective and align with project objectives and client expectations.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor design team members including architects engineers and drafts people.
Coordinate work between internal design teams and external consultants or subcontractors.
Project Coordination:
Collaborate with project managers construction managers and clients to ensure design alignment with project goals and timelines.
Review and integrate feedback from stakeholders and address any designrelated issues or conflicts.
Quality Assurance:
Implement and maintain design quality control processes to ensure accuracy compliance with codes and adherence to best practices.
Conduct regular design reviews and audits.
Budget and Scheduling:
Develop and manage design budgets and schedules ensuring that design phases are completed on time and within budget.
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure that all designs comply with relevant building codes regulations and industry standards.
Obtain necessary permits and approvals for design and construction.
Client Interaction:
Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding design matters.
Present design proposals and modifications incorporating client feedback into the final design.
Documentation:
Oversee the preparation and maintenance of design documentation including drawings specifications and reports.
Ensure proper archiving of project files and design records.
Work Environment:
Office setting with occasional site visits.
May require occasional travel to project sites or client meetings.
