Job Description
Are you fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and passionate about facilitating communication and inclusivity in educational settings Clarifi Staffing is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a qualified Educational Sign Language Interpreter to join our team for the current school year. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to work with a diverse caseload of students.
As an Educational Sign Language Interpreter you will play a vital role in ensuring effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers teachers and other members of the educational team. You will provide interpretation services in classroom settings school events and other educational environments to support student success and access to learning opportunities.
Brief Highlights:
- Adhere to professional and ethical standards including confidentiality and impartiality.
- Prepare for specific classroom assignments by understanding the subject material and students needs.
- Attend classes meetings and events with deaf or hardofhearing students to ensure accessible communication.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to improve skills and stay updated on best practices in educational interpreting.
- Provide realtime interpretation and transliteration services using American Sign Language (ASL) and other specialized modes of communication.
- Work collaboratively with teachers administrators and special education staff to support the educational social and emotional needs of students.
Requirements
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Prior experience interpreting in an educational setting is highly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to adapt interpretation to various levels of complexity based on student needs.
- Understanding of the cultural and linguistic needs of deaf and hardofhearing individuals.
- Associates degree in Sign Language Interpretation or related field; Bachelor s degree preferred.
- Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent professional certification.
