Job Description

This role is for one of the Weekdays clients

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Chief Legal Officer (CLO) to lead our legal department and ensure the companys legal compliance manage litigation and oversee all legal matters including commercial civil and criminal law. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both local and international legal frameworks and will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the organizations legal interests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal counsel to the executive leadership team and the board on all matters impacting the company.
  • Lead and oversee legal compliance ensuring the company adheres to local national and international regulations.
  • Manage civil commercial and criminal litigation including strategy development risk assessment and coordination with external legal counsel.
  • Oversee corporate governance matters including legal risk management corporate structuring and policy development.
  • Negotiate and review contracts ensuring they align with company goals while minimizing legal risk.
  • Stay uptodate on regulatory changes and develop proactive strategies to ensure legal compliance.
  • Lead internal investigations and advise on criminal law matters where necessary.
  • Manage relationships with external law firms and legal advisors.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies to protect the company s interests in disputes or litigation.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Legal Expertise: Strong background in legal compliance civil litigation commercial litigation and criminal law.
  • Compliance Management: Expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments and ensuring the company s legal activities comply with all relevant laws.
  • Litigation Management: Proven experience handling litigation cases both civil and commercial including negotiating settlements and courtroom representation.
  • Criminal Law: Experience with criminal litigation managing defense strategies and working with law enforcement when required.
  • Corporate Governance: Strong understanding of corporate governance practices and experience advising executive teams on legal matters.
  • Leadership: Excellent leadership and team management skills to oversee the legal department mentor junior attorneys and manage external legal teams.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess complex legal issues and develop clear actionable legal strategies.
  • Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills for contracts settlements and legal disputes.

Requirements:
  • JD or LLB from an accredited law school.
  • Bar admission in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Experience in both corporate and litigation law with exposure to civil commercial and criminal law.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:
  • Experience in highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of international law and crossborder transactions.
