Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

3.2.1. Catholic Music Director. The Catholic Music Director shall provide the necessary services to perform choir and congregational leadership and musical expertise for the Mass at the DMAFB Chapel.

3.2.1.1. Qualifications.

a. A willingness to provide the services in consonance with normal ecclesiastical liturgical practices.

b. A proven familiarity with the requirements of Catholic worship.

c. A recognition that the Catholic Chaplain or his designee will make the final decision as to the appropriateness of any part of a given worship event rite or observance including the music selected under this contract.

d. Demonstrated ability to maintain healthy functional interpersonal relationships with coworkers chapel staff and parishioners.

e. The maintenance of professional standards of conduct and public decorum including but not limited to dress and grooming.

f. The contractor shall certify appropriate professional competence by providing evidence of academic certification and/or experience in Catholic music performance and choral direction. The contractor must have the ability to sight read select and prepare liturgical music conduct choral and congregational singing and direct accompanist and other instrumentalists.

3.2.1.2. Specific Tasks. The Catholic Music Director is responsible for the selection of music to be used at the liturgical services at the Catholic Community at the DMAFB Chapel in collaboration with the accompanist and Catholic Chaplain or his Designee. The music selections will be made from musical compositions which conform to the general Roman Catholic tradition. Both traditional and contemporary music is acceptable for use in liturgical/worship services in keeping with the liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church. The Music Directors responsibilities include:

a. Select and prepare music for choir members and the Catholic Accompanist without violating copyright infringement laws.

b. Meet regularly with the Catholic Chaplain and/or his designee for music selection and the general planning and leadership of the music program.

c. Conduct a one hour rehearsal per week per liturgy. The rehearsals must be conducted separate from the liturgy itself. The warm up time prior to a service is considered part of the service and not a separate rehearsal.

d. Attend monthly Parish Advisory Council meetings and liturgical planning meetings. The contractor shall notify the Catholic Chaplain or his designee if unable to attend.

e. Attend a training session on the sound system for each of the two chapels on DMAFB.

f. Provide services for weekend masses which are currently held on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

g. Perform at special services or liturgies to include the Christmas Cantata as determined by the Catholic Chaplain or his designee. These services will include a 15 to 30minute warm up session before each service and the performance of the service itself of generally one but no more than two hours.

h. The maximum number of units available to the contractor is 300 units within a year. One unit is equal to one Mass special service liturgy rehearsal parish advisory council meeting or liturgical planning meeting and payment will be based on units actually performed.

3.2.1.3. Replacement Personnel. The Music Director is responsible for continuous performance through the contract performance period. If a replacement becomes necessary candidates must meet all contract qualifications. The Government reserves the right to refuse any candidate if the candidate does not meet all required qualifications.

3.2.1.4. Schedule The number of sessions the music director will provide are 52 Saturday Masses 52

Sunday Masses 104 rehearsals (two a week one for each weekend Mass) and 25 sessions for
special services or liturgies 67 units for planning and preparation of music materials for a
total maximum of 300 sessions/units. Each session (each Mass special service liturgy or
rehearsal) is considered a unit and payment will be based on the number of units performed.

This is a parttime position with compensation based on budget and the successful candidates experience and qualifications.
