By harnessing the power of natural processes specifically through accelerated rock weathering we remove CO from the atmosphere and pave the way for a greener more resilient future. Our efforts have already led to removal of 1003 kgs of CO from the atmosphere and we aim to remove 5 million tons of CO by 2030. We aim to scale up enhanced rock weathering (ERW) within South Asia while mobilizing climate finance and creating cobenefits for atrisk communities and ecosystems. About the Role:
The Lab Operations Manager at Alt Carbon will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of our stateoftheart laboratory Darjeeling Climate Action Lab (DCAL) in Bagdogra West Bengal. You will oversee daily lab activities manage inventory and supplies ensure equipment functionality and maintain lab safety protocols. Your role will be crucial in coordinating with field teams training new lab members and liaising with external vendors. This position requires a combination of technical expertise and leadership skills to manage the lab activities and support our research associates in their scientific endeavors. As a member of our team you will contribute to groundbreaking climate action projects that aim to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide through enhanced weathering. What You ll Be Doing:
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the lab.
- Maintain a record of inventory and order supplies such as lab consumables and other necessary materials for the lab works.
- Ensure all lab equipment is functioning properly and coordinate repairs as necessary.
- Supervise the preparation and processing of samples ensuring adherence to international standards.
- Assist with the onboarding and training of new lab members.
- Maintain lab guidelines SOPs and safety protocols in compliance with all regulations.
- Coordinate with field teams to facilitate sample processing and data recording.
- Liaise with external vendors and technical support for equipment maintenance.
- Report regularly to senior management regarding lab status and needs.
Who You Are:
- Proven experience managing a lab environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Leadership qualities to supervise and mentor team members.
- Technical knowledge of lab management including cataloging sample preparation and chemical usage.
Preferred Expertise:
- MSc in Geology Geochemistry Chemistry or related field and experience in clean labs.
- Experience in an academic or industrial setting related to geochemical research.
- Understanding of logistics for scientific equipment and supplies.
- Strong problemsolving skills to manage daytoday lab issues effectively.
