Job Description
Position Overview:
The Head of Fund Accounting is responsible for leading the fund accounting function within the organization. This role involves overseeing the accounting financial reporting and compliance aspects of investment funds ensuring accurate and timely financial information and managing a team of accountants and analysts. The Head of Fund Accounting will also play a key role in strategic planning process improvements and liaising with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of accountants.
- Oversee the daytoday operations of the fund accounting department.
- Conduct performance reviews provide professional development opportunities and ensure team alignment with organizational goals.
Financial Reporting:
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements including balance sheets income statements and cash flow statements for investment funds.
- Oversee the preparation of periodic reports for stakeholders including investors management and regulatory bodies.
- Review and approve fund valuations and ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Compliance and Controls:
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g. GAAP IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the integrity of financial reporting.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
Fund Administration:
- Oversee the reconciliation of fund accounts and resolution of discrepancies.
- Manage the calculation and distribution of fund income and expenses.
- Ensure accurate processing of capital calls distributions and other fund transactions.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in fund accounting operations.
- Leverage technology and automation to streamline accounting processes and reporting.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute strategic plans for the fund accounting function.
- Provide insights and recommendations on financial performance fund structures and investment strategies.
Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a key point of contact for investors auditors and regulatory bodies regarding fund accounting matters.
- Address and resolve any accounting or reporting issues raised by stakeholders.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Accounting Finance or related field. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 810 years of experience in fund accounting including at least 35 years in a managerial role. Experience with investment funds private equity or hedge funds is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles financial reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent analytical problemsolving and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems (e.g. ERP systems).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
